Here are my final baseball thoughts for this season;
We should start all the guys who got us here.
Romine at catcher
Luke at first
Maybin and Tauchman ( is he healthy?) in outfield, along with Judge
Frazier if Tauchman is unable
Mike Ford at DH
Chad Green as designated starter.
Tyler Wade as pinch runner
There is an old saying.." you gotta dance with the one what brung ya.."
Think Boone has the guts?
Think he has any guts?
Yes Tauchman is healthy but we would have to remove Stanton and what if we win three straight games! Stanton won't be available to maybe play in one of the World Series games and then what would we do?
ReplyDeleteDoug K.
Also,
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that Brett Gardner needs to get his final Yankee moment as he walks off the field for the last time. Final moments are WAY WAY more important than actually winning the World Series.
Jeter got his, Mariano got his, CC has had like eight of them already. Don't deny Gardner his moment. Especially over something as silly as playing someone better in a do or die game. Where are your priorities?
Doug K.
They just announced the line-ups, and only notable change is Stanton, batting clean-uo, and no EE. So much for the ones that brung us, right?! Go Yanks!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Doug K.! But I'm betting that Gardy is back next year for a whole season's worth of good-byes (and new merchandise for fans to purchase).
ReplyDeleteIt's the (new) Yankee way!
And Alphonso, I don't know if Aaron Boone has guts. But I do think he has an irrational attachment to the $1 million-plus he gets paid every year. Which I can understand.
ReplyDeleteThere's playing Mikey?
ReplyDeleteAren't they afraid he'll be too tired for the world series?
Perhaps they figured he's got no new quads to pull.
ReplyDeleteOr they'll pull him right after his first AB then hail him a martyr for putting his body on the line. I can already see the t-shirts "Heart of a Hero, A True Yankee (TM)"
So he can run to first base from the batter's box in an hour now?
ReplyDeleteWe have met the enemy and he is us: Cashman, Boone, Hal, the Boobster.
ReplyDeleteWhen Torre was the skip I thought quite a few times we won in spite of his genius moves, not because of them. The players had the ability to cover up his galloping mediocrity. Until, of course, near the end, followed by Binders and Aaron Fucking Boob, who haven't had the kind of players who can do that, 2009 aside.
I wish Mel was still around. At least maybe the pitchers we do have wouldn't be so screwed up.
Dick Howser would be ok, too.
Larry is the Boobster. Do not confuse him with Aaron Fucking Boob.
ReplyDeleteAnd they had to replace a lame pitcher with a lame pitcher? No Wade? No Tauchman? No Ford?
ReplyDeleteNo shit, the management sucks.
Last night was the saddest, most pathetic game I've listened to in a long looooooong time. If we can at least win this game, at least make them travel back to Houston,,,,, URGGGGGG!!!!
ReplyDeleteLET'S GO YANKS!!
Oh shit. Mikey.
ReplyDeleteK. Asshole.
ReplyDeleteHoly fucking hell!!! Hicks!!!!
ReplyDeleteTHATS more like it, HICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSanchez is awful.
ReplyDeleteSanchez and Stanton, the K Bros, make them go away!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDo you know how to spell MVP?
ReplyDeleteD-J-L-M
I keep weighing which would make the gods happier - to stick it to us and have them celebrate on our own infield - or to give us a smidgen of hope, then shatter it like a baby's favorite toy down in hostile territory.
ReplyDeleteLife is a minestrone.
ReplyDeleteIf Suzyn doesn't come back, who will say oy?
ReplyDeleteJM,
ReplyDeleteMe.
Doug K.
Boone is an idiot.
ReplyDeleteAlmost an idiot..
ReplyDeleteNow about those different baseballs...
ReplyDeleteAnother memorable at bat from Mike Stanton...
ReplyDeleteSuzyn would be a better DH than Stanton!
ReplyDeleteI schmuckdoodlidoo that message.
ReplyDeleteIn honor of big Maple, I've just put on the 180 gram first Ramones LP.
ReplyDeleteBeat on the best with a baseball bat.
Hey Ho Let’s Go!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOOKS LIKE WE WILL WIN ONE TONIGHT.
ReplyDeleteSORRY, BUT IT'S TOO LATE.
WAY TOO LATE.
WE HAD TO WIN 2 OUT OF 3 IN NEW YORK, NOT ONE.
I AM STILL NOT OVER LAST NIGHT'S GAME.
WE HAD TO HAVE THAT GAME LAST NIGHT.
IT WAS TRULY SICKENING.
SORRY, BUT IT'S DONE.
THIS IS WHY YOU FIGHT FOR HOME FIELD, NOT LOOK FOR EXCUSES TO NOT WIN IT. (INJURIES)
SORRY GANG FOR BEING A WORSE DOWNER THAN ALPHONSO.
....BUT WIN 2 IN HOUSTON?
NO CHANCE.
ALLCAPS> I just didn't want to fold up the tent in our house,,,,yes, a pathetic but tiny tiny victory
ReplyDeleteFuck Houston.
ReplyDeleteWhy the hell not.
The nightmare continues...
ReplyDeleteNo. I will not let them back into my heart so that they can hurt me again.
ReplyDeleteFuck all of them.
We can obliterate them. Weirdly enough.
ReplyDeleteI missed the entire game.
ReplyDeleteThey're just trying to get tv ad revenue. Who the fuck thought Ajerk and Big Juicy would be good commentators? Oh, the same people that like Schmukz
See you next year.
I don't know what amaze me more: the fact that they won or the fact that the game lasted less than three hours. Or the fact that Paxton pitched a great game.
ReplyDeleteALL-CAPS, I doubt that they'll win two in Houston, too.
ReplyDeleteBut I was glad to see this. I was glad to see that this team had this much fight in it, at least. I was glad it didn't just fold up like it has so many times in the recent past.
But most of all I was glad for us—that is, those of us who were the screaming maniacs filling Yankee Stadium again tonight. They deserved that one, at least. They deserved being able to go home happy and defiant and still full of pride.
Yeah, in some ways it makes it all the more agonizing that we didn't win more—especially Game 2, when there were so many chances. Going back to Houston up 3-2...
But hey. At least they showed this much life.
Fun fact of the day:
ReplyDeleteCurrent leader on the yankees for postseason OPS:
Cameron Maybin!
Bet you didn't know he was on the roster!
Austin Romine's is STILL 0.000. Why? Because he hasn't played once.
Gary's SCARY OPS is 0.481.
Aren't you glad the right guys are getting the ABs?
By the time Maybin and Romine get into the line up, they will be so rusty, WD-40 wouldn't help.
I know. Boone isn't doing himself any favors. Romine could have at least gone in late to those Minnesota games, or the first one in Houston. Maybin should be getting in for pinch-hitting, pinch-running, an inning or two in the outfield.
ReplyDeleteThe trouble is in part that they're still carrying so much dead weight on the roster. With EE and GC they now have essentially two DHs who cannot hit.
I know much has been said against Hicks in this space—a good deal of it by me!
ReplyDeleteBut I have also always said that he has a weird little clutch gene—note his amazing, game-saving catch in Minnesota during the season. And I'll add this: unlike SOME PEOPLE WE COULD MENTION (looking at you, Gary and "Mike"), it doesn't seem to take him a month to get back into form after he's been out.
Just sayin'.
