Spahn & Sain....And Pray For Rain

I don't think the Yankees are getting the break here, but the rain can't hurt.  Houston is just too hot right now.

We are going to face Verlander and Cole again anyway....unless we lose all games at the stadium.

Even so, their third starter is better than our first one.

And even another great outing by Tanaka won't matter if we trot out the same dullards to kill rallies.

Boone needs to do something useful and dramatic:

1.  Sit Sanchez down  - his time " to get hot" has run its course.

2.  Put Stanton on the injured list...his time as an active player has run its course.

3.  If Gio is injured ( I stopped watching the  embarassment yesterday, and then read some ominous line about Gio ) - bring up Ford and move the machine to third.

4.  Either sit Encarnacion or move him to 8th in the order.

4-A. Let Voit DH

5.  Cut some loser pitcher ( Ottavio?) and bring on Tyler wade.

If Boone can do nothing..or chooses not to....we can start packing for the long winter.

  1. BUT...you have all forgotten one key factor:

This extra day off has given Giancarlo Stanton time to get into shape.

Even as we speak, the crack Yankees training staff is applying the leeches!

  2. Good common sense solutions so clearly they won't happen.

  3. The Yankee Analytics staff would veto any of those very valid suggestions.

  4. Let there be a rain delay. Let them sit on their asses, their millionaire asses, and stare into the .abyss for 24 hours, contemplating a season ending in three or four days. Maybe that will give us some focus to these pictures with no focus and some fire and discipline to these hitters who like to flail at air.

Mon tres cher Alfons, when has Boone EVER done anything for us? He is a glorified puppet.

Hoss, on this rain day you can take solace in this week's episode of "The Deuce" - one of the best this season. Now I'm back to my traversal of the "Film du Look" school (Beineix, Chéreau, Besson, etc.) for the evening.

  6. I still think Boone is using Ottovino today, pretty sure no one will get a hit off him

  7. Sorry for the typos above. I was driving, dictating and drooling at the same time. You get the gist of it, though.

  8. I'd still start Sanchez and Didi and hope they start to hit. Encarnacion showed some signs of life. If Dtsnton has better numbers against the starter go with him at DH and use Encarnacion as a pinch hitter.

Oftavino has to be demoted to low leverage appearances until he can revive his stuff.

Yanks should have won at least one of the last two games. The bad news is that Houston has yet to play it's best game

  9. As soon as Tanaka gives up a hit or walk, let's take him out and bring in CC for yet another moment of glory on his farewell tour. We can follow that with Ottavino. I don't want a rain delay. Let's get this crap over with as quickly and painfully as possible.

How in the world can one of the top hitters on the team (see "Mike Ford") have not had a single at bat...while others are up there swatting at flies?

  10. Ceeja, with two games remaining between us and oblivion, we can’t just see how Sanchez and Didi are doing. We just did that and it was a disaster.

  11. Ceeja, you may be right about Sanchez, just in that Romine has now sat on the bench for so long he's probably very rusty.

As for Stanton, what possibly makes you think he's ready to play? I'd look for his next appearance to be sometime in the spring.

  12. 6. Rainout Theater means more Abbott and Costello.

  13. 13bit, I think perhaps you overestimate the amount of commitment here. Right now they are likely staring not so much into the abyss as the eyes of a drop-dead gorgeous young thing, and thinking, 'Huh, if the season ends this week I can probably talk this babe into coming down to Mexico with me.'

  14. HC66:

I hadn't thought of that as a possibility so I'll just say "God, I hope not."

  15. You won't be seeing Abbott & Costello reruns on WPIX anytime soon. Mr Fields bought the rights years ago and he isn't selling cheap.

Can you imagine what people would be saying in 2019 (instead of 1951) if a show represented 2 middle-aged men sharing a one bedroom apartment (I think one bed as well). And then there's the chimp, too!

I think Mr Fields had a secret camera in each apartment and surreptitiously filmed Mike The Cop and Batchagaloop having a menages a trois with Hillary Brooke. How do you think he amassed enough money to buy the rights to the show???

  16. That's so depressing. Somehow, I had a lapse and forgot that it's all about the money...

  17. If Mikey isn't in the starting lineup tomorrow, the entire Yankees management should either be fired or forced to pay Mikey's salary out of their own pockets.

"Day to day" should have been Columbus to Valentines on the Ellsbury List.

  18. OUR SEASON WAS REALLY KILLED WHEN...

#1.) THEY TOOK DOMINGO AWAY FROM US. (AT CC'S FAREWELL DINNER "CELEBRATION").

    #2.) WE BLEW HOME FIELD.

    THE CC FAREWELL TOUR....

THE GIFT THAT JUST KEEPS GIVING.

P,S.) WAIT TILL CC SOON ANNOUNCES HE IS FEELING GREAT AND LOOKS FORWARD TO COMING BACK NEXT YEAR TO "FINISH THE JOB" AND WIN IT ALL IN 2020.

  19. ALL-CAPS, I would not doubt that.

I so loved CC at first, too. He was a great personality, a tough, clutch pitcher.

Now, his egotism exceeds all bounds.

And Rufus, if Stanton is not in the Yankees' lineup tomorrow, he should not be on the postseason roster for the rest of this year. Period. Of course, his being on this long has probably made Ford or Tyler, Too, or The Red Menace or whoever replaces him irredeemably rusty.

But at least such an individual might be able to do such things as run, steal, swing a bat—maybe even play the field!

  20. It's funny to think back on how much writers and fans have beaten up on various individuals in the past for their egoism and selfishness. (And I have been in that howling mob at times, I must admit.)

Reggie, A-Rod, David Wells, Mussina, Clemens, etc. And before them, the fans got on the likes of The Mick, Maris, even The Babe.

But none of them hold a candle compared to the solipsism of CC and GC. They're all upright, outstanding, irreproachable solid citizens compared to what our two Super Egos are currently doing to the team.

The question is, who is LETTING them do it? And why?

  21. Oh, and Bitty? Currently, my hope is for a rain delay that lasts days. Weeks. Months, even, until people can barely remember that two more ALCS games were even supposed to take place. I want rain of diluvian proportions, canceling any possibility of playing.

Then, say sometime a few days before the start of spring training, the series will resume. The now thoroughly dissipated and distracted Astros will just go through the motions. Same with the Nats. We win!

That is, I think, my only hope.

  22. Mostly spot on, Fonz, but allow me to beg to differ on two eensie, weensie points:

    A) No, I do not believe the Ass-tros' 3rd starter is better than our first (not at playoff time, anyway)

B)Gio has been barreling the ball up & hitting it hard - - against Cole, for instance - - but has had the misfortune to hit some balls only as far as the track - - or right at someone. I don't think he's reverting to yesteryear.

Other than those two points, I can enthusiastically endorse the rest of your post.
