And so it goes... future Hall of Famer Jasson Dominguez beats former future Hall of Famer Jackson Melian by two Baseball America rating points

Yankee super-prospect Jasson Dominiguez, age 16, ranks 38th on the new Baseball America Top 100, out today.

He's never seen one pitch professionally. Not one. It's all based on wind sprints, stool samples and home videos.

Be excited if you want. Go crazy. It's up to you.

But remember, Dominiguez clocks in at two ranking points higher than Yankee super-prospect Jackson Melian did - he was 40th - when he debuted, age 16, in 1996. Melian never saw one major league pitch. Not one.

It's fun to stalk prospects. Just keep it in your pants.

  1. Jackson Melian lost both his parents on the same day as a very young man as they followed him around the bus leagues. It doesn't matter that he never played pro ball. He deserves his own small shrine at the stadium, if not in Monument Park.

  3. Stools samples can be very instructive.

  4. Duque, most of us wouldn't even know there was such a thing as a Jasson Dominguez of we didn't read this blog.

  5. I recently scouted a 5 year old LHP in the Dominican who , from 3 feet, could hit a wall with his beachball, every time. He has Yankee future written all over him. Should we give him millions?

Can we please agree to this concept; no further mentions of Jasson on this blog until he is 21,
or in a Yankee uniform standing in the Bronx?

You are only in for pain and disappointment.

There is one chance in a million that the Yankees have ID'd a 16 year old who is , without question, going to be a superstar.

There are, conversely, 999,000 chances in a million that he will be another mediocre flameout, with weaknesses too easily exploited by major league pitching.

The odds are: some relative will steal or piss away the money the Yankees have given for him, and he will be lucky to sell ice cream sandwiches near the beach. In any case, we can only hope we are still alive and coherent enough to hear and see the eventual outcome.

    I know it is a long off-season.

But you all should drink more. It is better to be dis-functional than to think positive thoughts of a sixteen year old. You have had them before ( Melian). You have had them of 21 year olds ( Montero ). None have prospered. All ( such a powerful three letter word ) have failed.

Stay away. Do yourselves a favor.

It is better to make up stories about Luke Voit.
