Virtual Baseball: Yanks Nothing But Krill in Maw of Rays! DL List Grows.

For the second straight night down in Tampa, the Rays systematically dismantled the Virtual Yankees, this time by a final score of 8-1.

This time, New York was shut down by Charlie Morton, the veteran hurler, formerly of Houston, who the Yanks spurned in the free agent market last year because he wanted $15 million a year.  Morton breezed to a five-hit, complete game victory over a depleted Bomber lineup that became all the more depleted when Brett Gardner had to be added to the team's ever-normal granary expanding DL IL EL.

Gardner pulled a hamstring trying to run down one of two triples that Rays first-sacker Ji-Man Choi hit, along with a grand slam home run and a double.

"You can't hope to shut down Ji-Man Choi," manager Ma Boone said afterward, "You can only hope to contain him."

After Gardner had to be removed from the game, he was replaced in centerfield by Estevan Florial, who recently returned from the DL himself, after cracking his head on a low-hanging hallway.

"Man, that's a high ceiling!" Florial remarked on seeing the Tropicana Field dome for the first time.  Floral struck out in his only two at-bats.

The Yankees' starter was new call-up Albert Abreu, rushed in to make his major-league debut since the Yankees had no more starters left, and Chad Green was needed in the bullpen with Aroldis Chapman's right hand still being treated for complications of frostbite.

Abreu appeared a tad nervous, walking six batters and hitting one in his six hours of work, thereby extending the time of the game to 4 hours and 35 minutes.

The one Yankees run came when, in a rarity, D.J. LeMahieu singled, and stole second, third, and home, while the Rays just sneered in contempt.
