No game tonight, so I guess we're back to Plague Theater: Mike Ford breaks Statcast

Yanks/Phillies canceled due to the hoax.

Meanwhile, Statcast ridiculously calculates Mike Ford's homer at traveling 680 feet, the longest ball ever hit by a Major Leaguer. WTF?

  3. Mantle, in spring training of 1951, hit a ball out of USC's park that supposedly traveled at least 700 feet—rolling to a stop, cosmically enough, at the feet of Frank Gifford, on the football practice field. (Gifford would end up using Mantle's locker during football season.)

But of course, a huge amount of that distance was the ball bouncing and rolling along the ground.

I doubt if anyone has ever hit a ball 680 feet—maybe Mantle, Ruth, or Josh Gibson—but it seems impossible.
