  2. 6 years 90 million

If you take off arbitration rises and various other expenses 12-13 million? to keep under austerity sorry luxury tax

Good luck getting at last 2 decent pitchers for that

  3. It’s about time.

Now get busy signing Tanaka and hey, why not go get another pitcher, and ah, can I get a left-handed bat somewhere? Please?

  4. I just hope he plays first base ( save those legs for the six years ); Torres moves to second, and we acquire a shortstop.

Oh...and 4 starting pitchers. And three closers.

  5. A few thoughts...

    DJ Day!

While in previous years throngs of Yankee fans would be heading to Times Square to kiss some nurses or if it was in the 70's, some hookers...

I cant shake the feeling that we're almost as good as we were last year when we weren't good enough!

Not complaining about the signing BTW. Using my, "How do I feel when this guy gets up" metric DJ is by far and away my favorite Yankee.

    A Gift of G-d

I looked it up. "The name Mahieu is of French origin. The meaning of Mahieu is
"gift of G-d"and is pronounced Ma-hie-u." Cool. Thank you.

Oh, G-d, As long as you're listening I've got a whole list of things that need doing. Let's talk after I have my morning coffee.

    Next Up

Starting pitching. Getting DJ for 15M a year is good. Re-sign Tanaka and then... Here's the thing. The luxury tax kicks in but only applies to the amount over the tax line. So at 20% if you go over by 20M bucks it's an extra 4M. Or the price of a bullpen lug nut. So stop screwing around and fix the rotation!

  6. Yeah, a good start—finally!

Of course it would make more sense to offer him more money for fewer years. But I suspect Jimmy is right: it won't matter so much if they're overpaying DJ as an aged, utility infielder six years from now.

Anyway, on to pitching. And really disastrous, Mike Lowell-style trades of some of our favorite players.

  7. We signed Judge for a little over $10 million. About right for the usual half a season's work.

If the guy played all year, he'd get 20 or close to it.

  8. Blue skies smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies do i see

    Blue birds singing a song
Nothing but blue skies from now on

Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right

    Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly

Blue days, all of them gone
Nothing but blue skies from now on

    Blue skies smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies do i see

    Bluebirds singing a song
Nothing but blue skies from now on

  9. SIX YEARS for this slow-ass phlegmatic energy suck WHO IS ALREADY 32 YEARS OLD AND WHO HAS A SLEW OF MEDIOCRE SEASONS BEHIND HIM, INCLUDING 2018?

The only thing worse than an unanswered prayer is an answered prayer . . . suckers.

Cashman is the idiot-patsy for the baseball agents of the world. Half of them can retire early just on the deals struck with this insecure imbecile.

  10. I don't care if cashman enriches the agents. He can do that all day. I only care if Hal cuts him off at any point. Just keep it coming

  11. After a few hours consideration, I've had a change of mind regarding DJ's contract. At first, I thought they got him on the cheap. But then I looked at it in reverse. What is the market for a decent/good 37-38 year old back up utility infielder, More precisely, what will it be in 4 years? Probably no more than 5 million, if that.
So if we agree 5 million would be a generous market and take the extra 10 million for those last 2 years and front load it to the first 4 years of his contract, it averages out to 20 million a year. Not too shabby, right? So it works out for both the Yankees as they keep the Average Annual Salary at 15 million but DJ is getting top dollar for a very good second baseman/utility infielder. And then he is guaranteed 2 years as a well paid backup.

    Win-win for both sides.

  12. And they got Kluber. Okay.

Meanwhile, something much bigger and more horrible: MLB is looking to make permanent the 7-inning doubleheaders and the runner on second to start an extra inning.

    Awful.
