Game 17 thread: Scoreless after two

Rooting for the Bombers: Henry Kissinger. (Until it's explained that they don't actually bomb anyone.)

  1. Nice catch by Fraser and then he had the presence of mind to throw in and hit Riley in the face with the ball. Red Menace, well done.

  4. There is no way this team can score 3 runs two nights in a row.

  5. A solid 4 2/3 innings, almost as impressive as Jack Morris in game 7 of the 1991 WS

  6. It is nearly 2am here in Scotland

I can't take any more of this game I'm away to bed

Expect to see an 8-0 score when I get up in the morning

This team top to bottom sucks at every single level possible

  8. I haven't had a chance to see the game so far.

Looking at the score, I feel fortunate.

  9. Tonight cinched it for me. These are non competitive at bats, up and down the lineup. They're completely clueless. They're bad hitters. So, not long ago, they were cheating, Astros style. And now they can't. They don't know what's coming now, and therefore can't hit. There were whispers the Astros, and Red Sox, weren't alone. Covid probably delayed/sidetracked whatever guardrails were put in place to prevent, but those guardrails are in full force this year. I think we need to face it...our heroes were cheating.

  10. I have been following this team since 1966. I have never seen it play this bad, for this long.

  11. OK--there's the .200 Mendoza Line. But what's name for the line below that--the .100 line, which Stanton, Hicks, and half the starting lineup seem poised to breach in their unstoppable freefall?

  12. Worse even than their limp bats, the seeming lack of effort. Maybe that look of helpless shocked look on their faces, as though Godzilla just parachuted in and flattened the Bronx. I've been watching them since 1974, this isn't close to when Thurman........ but you guys know what I mean.

  13. BTW, Cashman needs to stop treating these guys like physical and mental weaklings. Get Stanton's ass out in left field, bench players who aren't doing their jobs, and ride the hot hand (easy with the bullpen). If players are treated like babies during the season, how in the Hell will they have IT for the playoffs? Yeah, I know that guys need some rest, but at this point I wouldn't mind if Great Caesar's Ghost was pushing them.

  14. "Ride the hot hand"--otherwise known as "recency bias," one of the idiocies already in practice by Cashman and Boone that has destroyed the team.

  15. My first baseball memory is the 1962 WS watching the 7th game with my extended family. Through the haze of time, I believe that that was the game where Tony Kubek got hit in the throat with the ball and was choking. [Full disclaimer the memory loop is about 10 seconds long and consists in some part as my Aunts thinking Kubek was dead.]

My life has gone full circle as my latest memory is of the Yanks choking.

  19. The Kissinger/Bombers thing made me snicker yesterday when I saw it. Today it caused a snort. Pretty good when you can laugh at the same joke twice. Very creative. Excellent really. Amazing how in this April of Yankees Despair, a bomb joke brightens the mode.

  20. Archangel--Kubek was struck in the throat in game 7 of the 1960 World Series, not the 1962 World Series. Here's a kinescope of the complete original NBC broadcast of that game. Go to 1:45:40 for the Kubek incident. Mel Allen, the true voice of the Yankees despite the arrogation of that title by the odious Sterling, is at the mic.
