Looks like Civale has a motherfuckin' NO-NO going against the Bronx Bummers here in the top of the third. If he does see the no-no through to the end, should there be an asterisk attached to note that it was achieved against one of the sorriest assemblages ever to disgrace a baseball diamond?
Listening to TM&S on the satellite radio fed (driven by Jeep!). I remember the Stump Merrill era. I remember. What years those were. Horrible teams, but somehow loveable. There is nothing loveable about this team; the hatefulness starts at the top and seems to percolate all the way down to the sod.
But German is out there tonight, like a strange happy ending to a Twilight Zone episode. Suddenly walking out of a door no one noticed before into the clubhouse. Hard for him to be loveable what with beating up the girlfriend. Hard for the front office to be loveable they way it was handled. But he's out there. Throwing strikes since the second inning. "Terrific baseball," according to The Master.
5 hits, but 8 walks. 13 baserunners and one hit with the bases loaded. (Do I SMELL a rally!?) But 8 walks? I want to congratulate the Yankee hitters, but I suspect it may have more to do with the pitching
But...I gotta say, like a leaky sailing vessel of yore, my last hopes that Clint Frazier could be a worthwhile major-league player quietly sunk tonight in sight of land.
3-2, two runs in, and this kid pitcher pumps a 97-mph fastball down the pike. He beats you, hey, it's no disgrace. Those things happen. But Clint stood there. Like a lox he stood there, watched that pitch go down, then bent to unbuckle his shin guards.
Going back to The Twilight Zone theme ... German walks through a door that no one had seen the night before, and goes 6 ... 2 out rally to take the lead ... come from behind win ... scoring 6 runs ... and The Sweat Machine strike out the side only giving up one walk???
Oh wait. Cleveland. That's right. We were playing Cleveland.
Did I miss something? Boone pinch-hits for the right-handed-batting Frazier with the left-handed-batting Tauchman in the top of the ninth against a LEFTY pitcher? That's not just stupid, it's obviously an intentional humiliation of Frazier. Clint should publicly demand a trade--he needs a change of scenery to excel, and the Yankees aren't going to give him the vote of confidence he needs with an month of uninterrupted, un-jerked-around starts. Enough already.
WW ... when you only have 5,000 fans because of the pandemic, the screaming guy just stands out so much. I kept visualizing Chris Farley in that godawful Matt Foley suit in the stands screaming about all the Yankees must LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!
OK, BBB--thanks for the clarification! Nevertheless, as you point out, the main point still holds--it's obvious that Boone is insensitive to the long-range task of developing young talent and that they ought to trade Frazier before they destroy him.

A new low: O'Neill is trying to blame it all on the weather.
ReplyDeleteCan't anyone here play this game? Yes they are looking like the early 60's Mets.
ReplyDeleteDoug K.
I know. The Yankees never played in cold weather before.
ReplyDeleteClint... swing the fukking bat!

ReplyDeleteOh hell--Higgy hits a double and ruins the no-no. Never mind.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awful at-bat from Gardy. Retire, already!
ReplyDeleteThis team is brutal.
ReplyDeleteJudge is too far away from the plate...
ReplyDeleteWhat a break!
ReplyDeleteMy "this team is brutal" comment can be applied to both teams tonight.
ReplyDeleteIf we combined the rosters, could we come up with a Major League team?
O'Neill, Mr. Ohio, has suggested that the balls are too cold. Maybe he'll ask Meredith if she could serve as a ball warmer...
ReplyDeleteHicks looks as if he's never been in CF before. WTF?

But not loveable.
What is happening??
ReplyDelete5 hits, but 8 walks. 13 baserunners and one hit with the bases loaded. (Do I SMELL a rally!?) But 8 walks? I want to congratulate the Yankee hitters, but I suspect it may have more to do with the pitching
ReplyDeleteCan someone shut up that Cleveland fan who occasionally starts screaming? He sounds like Chris Farley's old "Matt Foley" character on meth.
ReplyDeleteGet it? See what I did there? Get it? Smell a rally? Odor!? SMELL?? ODOR!? GET IT!?
ReplyDeleteBBB, it's Cleveland. He's a beloved fixture there. Local color.
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! A rally!!
ReplyDeleteBut...I gotta say, like a leaky sailing vessel of yore, my last hopes that Clint Frazier could be a worthwhile major-league player quietly sunk tonight in sight of land.

The Red Menace needs a change of scenery.
Only three players in the Yankee batting order is batting over .220. Jeez
ReplyDeleteIt's good this is back.

ReplyDeleteI had the game on all night (out in the garage swapping a transmission...). Can’t say I noticed any background fan noise of note.
ReplyDeleteAnon ... I believe Tauchman was put in as a defensive replacement for Frazier in the 7th.
ReplyDeleteWhich still could still be taken as trying to embarrass Frazier.
OK, BBB--thanks for the clarification! Nevertheless, as you point out, the main point still holds--it's obvious that Boone is insensitive to the long-range task of developing young talent and that they ought to trade Frazier before they destroy him.
ReplyDeleteLove the van down by the river, BBB—where we all are these days. Where are the damned midges?
