HOT L BALTIMORE GAME THREAD

  1. The decks are awash. The ballast cannot be jettisoned. The boiler room has flooded. We are adrift. Adrift. And the seas are darkening.

  2. There’s an 8 minute interview with Suzyn Waldman on at bat app today, where she pretty much sums up the state of the Yankees. It’s not the doom and gloom we all know is true, but it’s a sign that inside-Yankees know what we know... they suck.

  3. Quote of the day (it’s way too early to call it the Quite of the Week):

“I've got to play a little smarter baseball there.” – A. Judge

There are certain professions in which I believe passing an intelligence test should be mandatory. We can start with elected politicians, but it could really help restore professional sports.

  4. The Yankees have traded outfielder Mike Tauchman to the Giants for left-hander Wandy Peralta

  5. Scotch,

One down twenty five to go!

  6. That's great. Trade one of our few left handed hitters for a completely fungible bullpen lug nut with a lifetime bWAR on -0.2.

I dare not look upon the brilliance of the Yankee front office lest the blazing light blind my eyes.

  7. Tyler Wade got recalled from the Alternative Site.

  8. Tauchman was never going to return to form. Yanks cutting their losses...

  9. Ranger speaks the truth. Tauchman is no great loss.

Is it just me or is Stanton using a fishing pole and not a bat? I could swear he swung at ball four twice in his last at-bat.

  10. And I’m beginning to suspect that Boone is not a lot brighter than Joe Torre.

Has there been a consistent lineup two days in a row this year?

Suzyn’s take on the Yankees missed one important thing. She said Clint still has to prove himself, but for fuck sake, how is a guy suppose to build any kind of confidence and consistency if he’s on the bench every other day? It’s almost as if they’re trying to break him. Like a wild horse. Play the man and leave him alone. What a fucking joke. Boone belongs in the broadcast booth.

And Kyle is, I think, our starting catcher. Bye bye Gary.

  11. Higgy is our starting catcher.

And the Yanks have 9 hits in 4 innings. The Master and Suzyn have been hammering the Yankees lack of hitting for days.

I don't mind them trading Tauchman, but the guy they traded him for stinks. They could have found an equally sucky pitcher anywhere for nothing.

  12. How slow is Stanton?

    Did he pull something?

    Doug K.

  13. Stanton hurt again, or was he just drunk?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well, they got value for value. Peralta is murder on lefties, but righties return the favor.

Tauchman wasn’t getting any playing time. He has had a grand total of 14 at-bats here. It was a wasted body. Wade will be far more helpful.

  15. The Tauchman deal is idiotic. No, he probably won't ever be the player he was in 2019 again. But he can do a lot of things: run, steal a base, field, etc.

And the reality is the only other back-up outfielder the Yanks have is Brett Gardner, who should have retired already. There's nobody—unless they're planning to try AnDUjar out there. And they sure as hell don't have another, competent fielding outfielder.

So they trade Tauchman for one more lousy loogy?

  16. I gotta say, Stanton's was maybe the worst run and slide I've ever seen by anyone not named Bartolo Colon.

But the real problem here is Phil Nevin. WTF is he doing waving Stanton in on a ball hit that sharply to left to a guy with that good an arm? Complete incompetence, that even the YES men can't seem to get over.

  17. And...more terrible baserunning, as The Gleyber can't stay on the bag. When did these guys all forget how to play—or coach!—in the major leagues?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I didn’t think it was possible, but Sanchez has actually gotten worse.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, yes, yes! Corey Kluber actually pitched five good innings! And we got our first sac fly! And we're only 1 hit away from our season high!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Stanton now has 6 HRs this season, batting less than .200.

Hey, I'm glad he hit the home run, but we're paying an awful lot of money for Rob Deer V2.0.

  21. Dave Kingman played for 4 different franchises in 1977?? And both the Yankees and Mets??

    ReplyDelete
  22. Horace, the state of the team is so completely lethargic, across the board, that I can’t help but feel the lack of leadership is responsible for what looks like a lazy, disinterested team. During Joe Torre’s tenure, there was no need for motivating the roster, but this bunch is bored and listless. Somebody needs to kick some ass. I don’t think Boone is the guy to do it

And no wins against the Spaghetti-Os are going to change that. And there goes Stanton, tacking on an unnecessary exit-velo homer.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kluber went 6 and 2/3. What a horse.

    ReplyDelete
  24. At least Kluber didn't bet klocked...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Boone isn't a tenth of the manager Torre was.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Red O-fer not getting in on the fun. Priior to the season, I thought he'd get sent down by management for some spiteful, passive aggressive reason. I didn't think he'd deserve it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't understand why so many people believe that Yankee management is deliberately destroying Red's career. In the first place the premise is absurd. Secondly, the team has a cadre of people who evaluate player's hitting/pitching "groove". I have to believe that they see a different game than we do. With this terrible start management doesn't have the luxury to let players get into a groove, or have a set line-up. Another way of looking at the whole thing is that both players and management are in a full-blown panic. It's not what they'd want.....

  28. That was a big Yankee win.

    Big. Yankee. Win.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Puleeez. Beating the Jennie-O’s doesn’t change that this team is the turkey.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Every win is a Big Yankee Win. Even beating the O's. I mean what else are you supposed to do with them?
