  1. Okay, let's get this joint started.

You never want to walk the first batter of an inning. Or the game. But giving up a leadoff homerun is a much mush worse idea.

    [sigh]

  2. Especially when you are auditioning for a spot in the big league rotation.

  3. It is indeed mush! Pure mush, say I!

  5. YES making much of this being Judge's 29th birthday. So far tonight he has flied out and grounded into a double-play.

Ah, what potential he seemed to have! Such a pity. I wonder if he will even be in the Bronx next year. I wonder if he should be.

  6. How to be embarrassed in NY:

    Get shutout by Matt Harvey.

  7. Yanks with 0 runs and 1 hit after 4 innings facing Harvey. Not the pookah, but the guy who's arm the Mets blew out 6 years ago. Tomorrow I think they're throwing Jason Isringhausen.

  10. People were saying we hit rock bottom in the embarrassing first inning of that Cleveland game.

Sorry, but being shut out for 5-plus inning by MATT FUCKING HARVEY is rock bottom.

  11. I played Betty Chumley in our high school rendition of Mary Chase's wonderful play Harvey.

  12. I had not thought about our production in years. Thank you Hoss for bringing back that memory.

  13. One run against Harvey in six innings.

    Woo hoo.

You know what Matt Harvey calls a 6.00 ERA?

    Something to shoot for.

  14. This is awful. I'm going to listen to a lecture on early tool use by hominids.

  15. Bases loaded base hit and we only get one run?? Did they use Danny Tartabull as a pinch runner?

  16. Yes. I'm going back to the lecture: The Fat of the Land, Dr Jessica Thompson.

  17. Cro-Magnon forever, Warbler!

And yes, what a terrific Jimmy Stewart movie, in that it is more than a little dark around the edges. Stewart really is a sad character. No sadder than our hitters, of course, but then who is?

  18. The worst thing about this awful month is that LeMahieu has gone south, too—4 DPs in just 20 games, and all at key moments.

As usual, there seems to be no one around to help a struggling player when he suddenly goes wrong.

And what a comedy of errors tonight: bad managing, bad fielding, bad relief pitching—is "Luetge" some kind of Norwegian fish dish?—a seventh-grader with the starting assignment, and of course the usual, atrocious hitting, particularly with men on base.

That pretty much covers every aspect of the game. At least nobody tried to steal a base!

  19. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd miss ol' Joey Binders... Fuck Boone

  20. Boone prob. thinks: "They'll hit eventually."

The IIH community certainly thinks: "Eventually = Sept. 17"

Jeez. Is it a case that these managerial types don't know what to do, or are they just too religious for words?

Isn't at least time to give the hitting coach his walking papers?

  21. Crash and burn.
Do not feed the Beast-No YES, no apparel, no Stadium.
Go to a MILB game near you instead. Or read anything by Allen Eckart, the 'Winning of America " series. [Just great historical fiction well footnoted for accuracies, written by a White guy married to a Shawnee. Also check out his Panther in the Sky; a book about Tecumsah, perhaps the great Native leader ever.]
Anyhow , I digress. Do anything except spend times on this cast of Mendoza Lites, except this wonderful blog

  23. Tecumseh was an amazing figure. A national hero in Canada, as he did much to save their sovereignty.
