  2. Is that a picture of the Yankees' batting instructor?

  3. Buck Showalter is not managing. He's available. Just sayin'...

  4. Buck might be a little too old, but I'd take him over Boone, for sure.

  5. Hell, I'd take Jim Leyland over Boner.

I'd take the corpse of Dick Williams about now.

  6. Nice. More DPs. It is quite reassuring to see the Yankees are still the Yankees

  7. We need to bottom out before we get better.

  8. DJ is a good hitter. It's tough to watch him get snookered by three straight 72 mph curveballs. Sad.

If you look at the lineups, Tampa isn't doing much better than we are. A lot of low BAs. But they're just a little bit better, and that's what'll take them farther than we'll go.

Poor Gleyber. The yips at his age. Cripes.

  11. Rufus, the key to professional sports is consistency.

  12. Stanton is paid 12 times what Choi gets.

    We are dumber than dirt.

  13. JM, consistently mediocre means you're the Cubs. I want the Yankees back.

  14. I think the Yankees just honored America with a sad flugelhorn.

  15. Rufus, mediocrity is being very generous.

  16. After the 5-15 start, we posted the best record in baseball over the next month. Now we look like we're working on another 5-15 streak.

I don't think you win pennants that way.

Nice to see Miggy park one, though. And now, Sanchez is pinching for Higgy, one of the few guys to get a hit today.

I might have gone with Wally Cox to block, but we'll see how this works out.

  17. They might pull this one out, but I think it's more likely they don't until they're in front of the urinal.

    ReplyDelete
  18. JM, I stand corrected. You are right.

But I think this team is more the squatting type. No need for a urinal. Definitely management is in that demographic.

  19. Michael Kay suggests that a right-handed heavy lineup is off- balance and susceptible to string right-handed pitching

What a genius to have figured that out! Maybe Kay should apply for the GM position! We currently don’t have a GM who knows anything about baseball, do we?

  20. What happened to fouling it off intentionally when you're fooled on a pitch?

Right, the motto: Dare to take strike three.

  21. Another off day for Rolaids…

    ReplyDelete
  22. Michael Kay said Thompson is just throwing strikes. And why not? It’s the one pitch Yankees can’t seem to hit.

    ReplyDelete
  23. If Buck Showalter is too old to manage at 65, what is Tony LaRussa doing managing the first-place White Sox at 76?

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Yankees don’t even have warning track power

  25. Sell the team HAL!

To someone who wants to win and who will clean house in corporatetown.

  26. LeMahieu--seven-year millstone, along with the Stanton and Hicks millstones. Stanton is obviously still hurt. When he's healthy, he hits. When he's not, not. Problem is, he's seldome healthy. This team sucks. hManagement incompetent, stupid.

  27. The big thing missing from this Yankee team...A REAL LEADER... The sad thing is I don't know who that person is or if this team even has someone to take charge and step up.

  28. Signing Gardner was a mistake . . . LAST YEAR it was a mistake. This year it was folly. What kind of dolt has decided that his everyday centerfielder should be a 37-year-old who is batting below the Mendoza line, with no real backup? Great roster construction there, Brian! If you could imagine a front-office housecleaning that would bring in a first-rate management team, the immediate basic steps would be: release Gardner and bring up Florial--Florial wouldn't be any worse at the plate, would be a better defender, and needs the opportunity to hone his skills in the majors; release Odor (this guy will never bat above .200); trade Urshela while he still has some value (he's slow, unathletic, and over time will regress to his mean of a .260-ish hitter with modest power) and make Andujar the everyday third baseman, fielding imperfections and all; make Wade the everyday second baseman; release Sanchez or get whatever slop you can in a trade; send Taillon into a black hole and put Deivi Garcia into the rotation (he's not going to develop any further at AAA); put Frazier in left field and leave him there--no more gratuitous benchings, pinch-hitting, and late-inning defensive yanking; fire Boone and replace him with Showalter or a young analytics-oriented guy who understands and helps to promote young talent. Those measures are just for starters. You would need a new management team to accomplish this because Cashman is too deeply invested personally in too many of the missteps that are killing this team.

  29. Gardener wasn't signed to be the everyday centerfielder.
    Deivi sucks right now.
Red is one of the players below the mendoza line.
Wade is not a starter for any team.
You have no other third/forth outfielder.
You have no other pitchers or bench players.

    So much better than Cashman.

  30. This team is so utterly inept and unentertaining that all I can think of is that they have become the nex-gen Baltimore Orioles for the foreseeable future. [or may be more if Hal is still the owner. Any day now I expect him to say that this is not exceptable and he expects more for what the team is being paid and then reiterate that he has full confidence in Brain Cashmere.]

  31. Wow!

The curd would play Wade everyday over the Major? Major's lifetime average is higher than Wade's slugging percentage.

Don't get me wrong. I like Wade. He's a valuable backup, like Velarde or Gallego.

Starting full time? Over LeMahieu? Now *that's* crazy talk.
