Went to the Hudson Valley Renegades game last night. 3-2 win. Very few strikeouts and THREE, count em THREE bunts!!!! Maybe they are teaching contact and fundies again.

Nice stadium and our SS Oswald Peraza looked very good in the field. Wanted to see catchers Josh Breaux or Anthony Siegler but they didn't start. They also have a lefty, Ken Waldichuk who is averaging over 18Ks per 9. Didn't see him either but it was nice to know he exists.

Sat behind home plate for $15 and enjoyed an evening of what baseball used to and should be.

As to the juju gods and Kluber. .. I'd like to think he got Rockefellered.  If that was his last full game it's how you want to go out.

  5. So you probably didn't see Breaux because, at 23, he's hitting .156 in Single-A.

But don't worry! Last year he hit .250, in 5 games in something called the "Energy Constellation League."

  6. As for Seigler, the one-man band—he is a switch-hitter and switch-pitcher, he isn't even listed as being with a minor-league team, though he will turn 22 next month.

Here is the lowdown from MLB.com:

Famous as a Georgia high school switch-hitter and switch-pitcher who could throw in the upper 80s with equal effectiveness with either arm, Seigler was also talented enough to become the first prep catcher drafted in 2018. Signed for $2,815,900 as the 23rd overall choice, he's working to join Jacoby Ellsbury as the only members of the Navajo Nation to reach the Majors. Hamstring, concussion and quadriceps issues along with a fractured patella in his knee limited him to 54 games in his first two pro seasons before the pandemic restricted him to at-home development in 2020.

Extremely athletic for a catcher, Seigler is agile behind the plate and can even field bunts left-handed when needed. He has Gold Glove upside with promising receiving and framing skills as well as plus arm strength. He has quick and efficient throwing mechanics that helped him erase 35 percent of basestealers during his brief time in low Class A in 2019.

There are questions as to how much offensive impact Seigler can make, and getting just 176 at-bats in his first three years after signing hasn't helped his cause. He doesn't stand out with his strength or bat speed, and he has made a lot of weak groundball contact to this point. His best offensive attribute may be his patience at the plate and, unlike most backstops, he has close to average speed and good instincts on the bases.

  7. Huh, why do alarm bells go off when he is compared to Jacoby Ellsbury?

Plus, I loved this: "He doesn't stand out with his strength or bat speed, and he has made a lot of weak groundball contact to this point."

    O-kay.

Well, the guy's had a lot of injuries, which is sad, but at least they will serve as a future rationale for Anthony as to why he didn't make it. (Breaux will have to blame the Covid: 'I was TEARING UP the Energy Constellation League!")

But I remember looking at this at the time, and thinking, "No. Way." Two more in a long, long line of Brain draft picks just flushed down the toilet.

But what you really have to ask yourself is this: Why, with Gary Sanchez an all-star behind the plate, was Brain drafting not 1 but 2 catchers in 2018? Could it have been that he already had the inside dope that Gary wasn't for real? In which case, why wasn't ICS II dealt for Realmuto when he could have been, after that season?

Ah, the mysteries of the Bronx! They go on and on!

    Better than being Rock-A-Pellad

Seigler is on the Renagades roster. https://www.milb.com/hudson-valley/roster

They have him as 20. They have Breaux as 22. Oh wait... those are their uniform numbers. LOL that's on me.

  9. I doubt if we'll ever see them above that rung.

But hey, at least they saw major cash from it, unlike the old days. Seigler starts out in life with nearly $3 million—not bad for a guy with a high school education. I hope he invests wisely and safely, and goes to college.

  11. Alphonso,

Pretty standard ball park stuff. Hot dogs, hamburgers, a lot of alcohol based seltzers, pretzels etc.

Nothing remarkable except for the reasonable prices. That was pretty remarkable.
