I have done the math, and the " big" Yankee hitters ( Judge, Stanton and Frazier ) would all be more effective hitters if they never swing at any pitch.
With runners on first and second, and no out, an infield fly to the third baseman would invoke the " infield fly" rule. And the batter ism automatically out.
However, with the pop fly about one foot in foul territory ( when caught by Urshela ), I don't think the umpire should invoke the rule If the third baseman dropped the ball it would just be a foul ball. Just a strike on the batter. No runner could advance anyway.
But because the umpire lifted his arm ( indicating " infield fly rule" ) the batter was out. WTF?
That was at least the second successful bunt I have seen from Gardy this season (I think last time he made it a single). He set up the runs that just scored. Has any other Yankee bunted - successfully - this season? A dying art.
While I have loved Gardy for so many years... that says it all: so many years. I truly wish him all the best for his final season.
Hopefully he will find a place in the organisation in which he can pass on some old tricks to the new dogs.

Oh, great. German Munster today against a good team. What are the odds?
ReplyDeleteHe looks good today. The curve is on
ReplyDeleteThey have two runs. Game is over. Best we can do is tie.
ReplyDeleteI love watching Frazier strike out.

This can't be right.
Second, third time through, German sucks.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet another Yankee "starter" who can't make it through the fifth.
ReplyDeleteThe good news? The bullpen will be so exhausted by August that they'll be FORCED to preview all those great minor-league arms.
Nestah was nasty.
ReplyDeleteIf we were scoring runs, we wouldn't be nitpicking over giving up four runs...
ReplyDeleteJust want to put this here, before I drive to Jersey to put some money on whatever 13bit says:

don't let this series go to your head.
Y'all better ignore my bullshit
DeleteAaron with some clutch this afternoon today. Good to see.
ReplyDeleteNot good to see? People openly sleeping in the zillion-dollar seats—the handful who showed up, at least. Word to HAL.

And the General! Nice. Just have to hope Chapo isn't chumpo today.
ReplyDeleteWow, Ma even got tossed—and rightly so. Boy, we're energized today!
ReplyDeleteBut Chapman again looks far from unhittable. He won't last the year at this rate.
Also, how old is Jed Lowrie? I seem to remember him on the 1967 Red Sox...
The ump is an ass.
ReplyDeleteNice to see another comeback. Refreshing change of pace from most of this year.
ReplyDeleteUrrgh. A dropped ball. Here's comes the three-run, game-tying homer.
ReplyDeleteStill not in the bag. Chapo has zippo.
ReplyDeleteMost dramatic move of the game: Boone angrily threw his chewing gum into the dirt as he exited after his ejection. Quelle horreur!
ReplyDeleteAnd now ... Ladies and Gentlemen! The Chapman meltdown.
All right, great—and won despite the bullshit from the home-plate ump.
ReplyDeleteTerrible umping. Jesus.
ReplyDeleteHoss,
ReplyDeleteI think Jed Lowrie backed up Jerry Remy on the 1978 Sux.
Right, Denny Doyle was already gone by then!
