Just Saying....

Yes, we got " jobbed" today by the umpires.

Cole was demoralized because strikes were called balls.

Batters ( on the Yankees ) were demoralized because balls were called strikes.

A Tampa runner went out of the base path to avoid a tag ( running to first ), but was called safe.  The video tape was indisputable, but I gather that particular " judgement "call is not reviewable.

Instead of the next batter being "out number three," and the inning ending 2-1 Rays, it all fell apart and the inning ended 5-1 Rays.

Game over.

( For those of you who are optimists, yes, we did get our 2 runs eventually. Well done).

After Cole departed, Yankee" clown college" entered the game and the Rays increased their total to 9 runs.

But the facts are clear:

1.  Tampa is a better team

2.  They pitch better and they hit better.

3.  They are far superior on baseball fundamentals.

4.  They are an entire level up as a defensive team.

5.  They are faster.

6.  They are younger and deeper.

7.  They get paid far less.

I'm just saying......maybe we should try something new.

20 comments:

  1. Things to try that might be new:

    1. New hitting coach.

    2. Teaching fundamentals in the minor leagues. NOW.

[as in, if a guy can't hit to the other field against a shift, shed him immediately).

    3. Teaching fundamentals to players added via trades. NOW.

[as in, review baserunning and fielding. daily. as in, every day]

    4. Better talent evaluation before trades, before drafting, and in Rule 5 decision-making. Among other things baseball teams normally do. I don't have a lot of confidence in this one, as Cashman would have to hire someone to get this done.

    5. Get a shortstop who can field, and a centerfielder who isn't Judge. Difficult, but not impossible. Yeah, we want a CF who hits .304 and covers a lot of ground, but we might have to settle for .259 with a good OBP and decent fielding.

I believe none of these things are radical (we all want to get rid of Hal, Brain, and Lorna Boone, but I don't have those on this list (because they seem like fantasy right now). The 5 things above can be done -- tomorrow or the day after, without much ado.

Also not here: Ridding the team of Stanton and Sanchez. I really would like this, but it isn't realistic. And getting a major league catcher probably would not be as easy as adding weak-hitting SS and CF.

Might want to consider trading The Sweaty Reliever -- yes, again. He has the move value of any player on the team . . . to other teams. At this point, even General LeMay won't bring value in a trade, I don't think.

    ----

The thing that looks necessary (if not realistic) is to remove the Yankees from the American League and demote the team to AA -- you know, the way they do in some European soccer leagues.

They might have a shot at 3rd place in one of those AA leagues, maybe...

  2. I now know the difference between an employee who makes 30million per and a guy who makes 30thou.

The 30mil guy wakes up and says his tow aches. Calls in to say he can’t show up, Boss says “take it easy big fella, rest up and let us know when you’re ready.” 30thou guys calls in sick with a stubbed toe. Boss says: “You’re fired.”

I used to be angry. Now I’m disgusted. Last year Luke hobbled his way to a home run title, and we can’t get our (expletive deleted) to sit in the dugout and take his hacks every few innings.

I’m not in favor of trading that lazy bum, I’m thinking much stronger thoughts.

This team is a ship without a rudder. When a guy like DJ gets that upset, it’s not about the umpire. Even umps have bad days, and they were not responsible for another complete team meltdown.

  3. And trading players won’t do it.

    Boooooooone has got to go.

  5. Joe FoB:
    Yes to what you said.

    Dick:
I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused.

Angels want to wear my red shoes.

Did you hear about the Bishop and the actress?

  6. I'll do a Master here...

We're only 4.5 games out...4 in the loss column.

Team starts hitting, we start a winning streak of substance.

Problem...ball is less lively this year. Our team is build around HRs.

Problem...because we can't hit HRs like last year, we need to put hits together and take extra bases. our team is not athletic. We don't change launch angle because of analytics.

Problem...can't make a trade because the players we want to move have low value presently.

Problem...our farm system has no players ready to make an impact in the majors.

There are no answers for all of this...you're looking at, at best, a slightly above .500 team who could be a wild card team come October. Britton and Severino come back soon so we still have pitching if they execute. The hitting...I'm as optimistic as el duque so you know what that means...

  7. Ok Rufus, I’ll bite - tell me about the Bishop and the actress

  8. And on another note, the Yankees will be visiting Anaheimen 30, 31 August and 1 September.

Any of you out in SoCal available for one of those games? We could have a west coast IIH meetup!

  9. Dick,

    Sorry, I'm old.

I used to be disgusted from this song: https://genius.com/Elvis-costello-the-angels-wanna-wear-my-red-shoes-lyrics

    Bishop and the Actress:

Joe Jackson, Sunday Papers. Came out around the same time as

    Great early 80s song:

Mother doesn't go out any more
Just sits at home and rolls her spastic eyes
But every weekend through the door
Come words of wisdom from the world outside

If you want to know about the bishop and the actress
If you want to know how to be a star
If you want to know about the stains on the mattress
You can read it in the Sunday papers, Sunday papers

Mother's wheelchair stays out in the hall
Why should she go out when the TV's on
    Whatever moves beyond these walls
She'll know the facts when Sunday comes along

If you want to know about the mad punk rockers
If you want to know how to play guitar
If you want to know about any other suckers
You can read it in the Sunday papers, read it in the Sunday papers

  10. Gentlemen:

While I love-love-love Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson, the phrase in question has been around since the 1920s ... and likely well before. Here's a decent explanation:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Said_the_actress_to_the_bishop

I was amused to see "Lucky Jim" by Kingsley Amis referenced in this Wiki article. I'm of the opinion that "Lucky Jim" is the funniest book ever written. The opening paragraph of Chapter 6 where the title character wakes up with a vicious hangover is for the ages (e.g., "His mouth had been used as a latrine by some small creature of the night and then as its mausoleum").

  11. Granted he got hosed today, but why are we not allowed to criticize Cole, who is 6-6 when he pitches this year and has had a few stinkers now...and DJL who is a piece of shit this year? Granted not as much as many, but he won a friggin batting tile and is hitting .250 and zero run production.

Meanwhile every split at the stadium with Tampa, every Trop sweep by Rays, even every one run loss to the Yanks...they are mocking them! They spend 25% that Yanks do and can win a game against our best $30M pitcher with a soft tosser making dick...like every time. How does this not get under the skin of the Yankee brass? Its obvious outspending is not where the money resources need to go. We clearly have no interest in player development, especially now that Sanchez, Gleybor, Clint have nearly zero impact in their production since their rookie years and each has fallen off a cliff. Just throw money at DJ and Cole and that overcompensates for that? B friggin S. The Rays figured out the "easy" tendencies of a one dimentional Yanks team with their analytics, and our "analytics" are ruining actual talent by making them think "data" at the plate. They become fools. And no "win" after scoring runs on walks and wild pitches fixes it. They loafed into this year...admit it Yanks. And I don't see how they even sniff the playoffs.

  13. I think the Yankees should try a new sport. This one isn't working out for them.

  15. We know what's wrong.

We know ways to fix it.

We know it's not going to happen.

So why do we keep talking about it?

    Well...you know.

  16. I read that MLB is going to crack down on doctored baseballs. Is this already affecting Cole? Hmmmmmm.....

  17. Who said we're not allowed to criticize Cole? No one I saw?

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Matt P. Here goes. Cole sucks. I'm getting tired of his cocky bull shit when he can't even deliver the goods. So he gets paid 35 million a year and gets badly outpitched by a guy who can't even break a pane of glass with his fastball. That was a disgusting performance, in a very big game, no less. The Tampons use Cole as a pinata. And we're paying 350 million for this? As soon as Gardner puts us ahead, Cole walks a guy and then grooves one to their best hitter. Has he ever heard of pitching carefully to prevent a big home run?

This bull shit has been going on since he got here. He's got to have his own personal catcher. He gets his butt handed to him every time he pitches against the Tampons. He hasn't won a big game since he came here. Can't blame this one on Gary Sanchez, right? WTF? Time to look at yourself in the mirror, Gerrit Cole. The truth is ... you suck!

Cole is looking to be a very expensive mistake. If we really want to turn it around, this winter, might as well trade everyone. Starting with Mr. Cockstud here.
