Photo quiz, to remind us of when we had a great team ... name these Yankees
OK, something to distract us from Cole's injury and the sinking ship that is the 2021 New York Yankees.
A friend got me these nesting dolls about 20 years ago, honoring the "1998 National Champions" New York Yankees. "Made in Russia" is painted on the base.
So, today's quiz ... name the Yankees supposedly pictured here, left to right.
Here's a closer look at the smaller ones (as if that would help).
I'll chime in with the answer a little later in the comments.

Left to right: Jeter, Bernie, Wells, Mariano and - fuck me - Mickey Rivers?
ReplyDeleteYou got 3.
DeleteLennin, Marx, Engles, John Astin...
ReplyDeleteOh wait that was Marty Ingles. My Bad.
Actually I have a similar set from the same era.
Bern, question for you.
Who was the little doll in the center. Mine was a tiny Tino (Martinez). I still have him somewhere.
Doug K.
The tiny one in the center is supposed to be Marino Rivera.
DeleteI love the "1998 National Champions" legend on the big doll. Yeah, these were made in the USA all right...
ReplyDeleteI think that was the year the Yankees beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl to clinch the title.
DeleteThe dolls are supposed to be (from left) Jeter, Bernie, David Wells, Paul O'Neil and Mariano.
ReplyDeleteAnd Wells' jersey is 31, which he never wore. Of course, his doll is also right-handed, so it seems details weren't important to our Russian artist.
Wells was never that skinny in his entire life!!
