Remember this moment, for there will come a time when they must pay for what they have done

Right now, we should be welcoming the boys of summer.

Instead, they have stolen the first signs of spring.

They have taken a piece of our lives.

There will come a time when they expect us to forget what they have done.

They will open their doors and expect us to pretend all is forgiven, and nothing happened.

If we do that, they will have learned nothing.

Remember this moment.

  1. I don't read a lot of other baseball blogs (or "news") -- or other sports stuff, for that matter.

However, I would like to declare this seeming fact: IIH is doing a whale of a job of documenting

-- the stupidity of baseball's owners

-- the decline of the game as it is played and presented

    and

-- how I, personally, feel about a game I've loved since childhood.

If there are other sources online (free) that are doing ANYWHERE NEAR what you are doing here, I've not found them.

I'm 68 yrs old. I'm not bitter, I've lived life the way I wanted to live it. I was lucky enough to NOT be drafted, to NOT die of Legionnaire's Disease, and to survive CHF. And that car accident in 2016 that was my fault. Also, I married the right woman, who -- this is a fact -- I met in a bar.

    That's a lot of luck!

AND: I'm coming to terms with the fact that my pre-retirement idea -- we were going to do a lot of traveling, enabled by the fact that my wife is a saver -- is just not going to happen. Forget COVID for a moment: Today I read about an idiot on a flight from west to east who decided to first try to invade the cockpit, and then tried to use the exit door. While in the air!

I can swallow my disappointment at the non-travel. I haven't been to NYC, my home town, since 2014. This means I've not been to Spumoni Gardens (Bklyn) since then, either.

    ---

BUT: I am horribly disappointed by the fact that I can't watch a baseball game anymore (even in 2021, back when they played). I get irrationally angry when a Yankee batter swings at a 2-and-0 pitch (he should be selective then, doncha think?) -- and pops up. Forget all of the strike-outs.

And going forward, as documented here with facts and poems (and songs?) --- baseball is gonna be even worse. Hard to imagine.

    Thanks. I guess...

  2. Honestly - I won’t spend a cent on baseball this year. Just by my small lack of contribution, MLB / Hal will not get from me:

    - $180 for the MLB Extra Inning package (Yankees fan in Va.)

    - $35 on my annual NY hat I purchase every March

    - $800 in ticket purchases (my GF and I usually go to 4 NYY games a year and usually budget $100 each for tickets)

    - $600 in concessions (I’m a fat drunk so this is likely a low end figure for 2 people at 4 games.

    - $250 in NYY gear at the Stadium (GF always wants a tee shirt or jersey of whatever player she thinks is cute that season. I always buy a ‘13 Rodriguez’ tee shirt that I use to clean up after the dog)

That’s $1865 just from one fan. That’s what Hal spends on clam dip for the weekly Sunday yacht ride. Won’t make much of a dent, I know.

Now imagine if a 100,000 of us did this.

    $186,500,000

    1. Furthermore, I will not give MLB network and viewership, nor any clicks at MLBdotCOM. I will use grass roots means of watching / researching any baseball results from 2022. I will watch games in bars, and read results in actual print newspapers.

How will you fight the powers that be? How will you tell Manfred to screw off?

      Wish me luck.

  3. I'm gonna go eat worms. A lot cheaper than Stadium food, too.

  4. We could do one of those "everybody mails something to the commissioner." type deals where we send him a symbol of our dissatisfaction. Maybe a key. "Unlock the lockout!"

If that doesn't get it done perhaps one of us should dress in full Yankee regalia, call a press conference, and self immolate.

    Whatever works.

  5. test test test

going to use the word "fuck" to see if that does anything.

if this test post remains, I will post again.

not that MLB gives a shit. they don't care about anything.

    Hal cares, though. Hal cares.

Hal cares. Brian is a genius. Boonie is an old salt.

And Randy Levine is a hale and hearty fellow.

    I love everybody.

  7. I’d like to say I don’t care, but I do. Difference is, I am thoroughly pissed off, and tired of being pissed on, by MLB. I too will not give a red cent to MLB this year. As far as any more organized type of protests, include me the fuck in.

This killed me. Thank you for the laugh.

  9. "Same as it ever was".

@ Unknown-How will I fight MLB? The same way I have the last 2 years. With an insanely cheap subscription to an IPTV provider that allows me to watch every MLB home and away broadcast for nothing. Even cuts out commercials. They won't get a dime from me anymore!
Perhaps that's what you meant by "using grass roots means of watching".

  10. Unknown, I don't know your name, but I like the cut of your jib!

    Good ideas all around.

How MLB thinks things are possibly going to end well here is beyond me.

  12. If I pay any attention to games at all this year, I’ll continue my old school approach: small radio on the front porch or backyard with some liquid refreshment. Not paying for yes network

  13. MLB's "Great Reset" explains this. Owners...and maybe players too..want a 140 game season, starting around 1 May (April games are pointless from this bottom line point of view) with expanded playoffs. They got the latter. The're working on the former. Conditioning fans for it this season.
