Anyone Notice The Elephant?

 At the end of the 5th inning yesterday ( yanks leading, at home, 3-0, with Cole coasting), I texted both Mustang and Duque the following: 

"we are going to lose this game.  We just had runners in scoring position with one out, and two Yankees struck out."

As a stimulus for this concern, Hicks ( who was hitting really well) just fouled a fastball off of his shin,  and was leaving the field under assist by the trainers. " Cold, hot, hurt," as one of our pundits coined. 

There is peril everywhere.  

But not a single world was mentioned by the blathering TV commentators, about who was asked to close out this ballgame. It was a no brainer, even for Boone, to select Holmes. 

But it didn't take great baseball genius, or a  major league resume, to see that something was way, way wrong with Holmes.  Soon, even the great minds on the Yankee bench could see it unraveling for him. 

So then what happens?

Wandy Peralta. 

Not a whisper of " the elephant" to which I refer in the headline.  How far down, exactly, as Chapman fallen?  He is the man with the talent and the experience. He has the credentials for these moments. 

Is he " done?"  Does Ranger reject, Albert Abreu, have higher rank now?  This was the moment to see if Chappy can recapture past glory.

Instead, we went with Wandy ( what kind of name is Wendy?).  To be fair. He did his job.

There was an inning ending double play in the works, except our all star catcher dropped the ball, transferring it from glove to hand. These things happen.  

They happened to the Brooklyn Dodgers as August eroded their 13 game lead over the NY Giants, before Bobby Thompson ended it all, with " the shot heard round the world."

So is Chapman already our Ralph Branca?
