I'm shocked the Yankees would acquire a reliever with low velocity (fastball 90-91). When's the last time they did that? Must love his secondary stuff. Apparently his slider and changeup are otherworldly.
Effross has five years of team control so he must be part of the longterm plan.
I liked Hayden Wesneski. We'll see how he does with the Cubs. The Yankees had to make a decision on him soon since he was Rule-5 Draft eligible.
On target Zach, we would probably lose him over the winter. That’s the peril of having good (not great) prospects and never bringing them up. But this guy nobody ever heard of? I think the team believes they can “fix” RP’s now, and in fairness they do have a good track record of doing so. I just don’t see anything here. I have to feel there are a few other moves coming.
Seems like an immediate upgrade over 3/4 of our bullpen. Limits walks and homers, lots of strikeouts. Effross has also handled inherited runners well (only 14% have scored this year).
Yes, Dick, we need the entertainment value! Especially when we’ve been underwhelming so far. But Benintendi will start hitting though…won’t he?
I read excerpts from Gallo’s interview w/Lindsey Adler. He sure sounded like someone who is about to leave. Maybe the club said something to him?
Here’s one that is true : Robinson Cano released by the Braves. Not sure what the record is for veterans getting DFA’d in one season, but he must be up there. This must be the end for him, but like Jason he keeps returning.

A side-armer, Effros. Who knows?
ReplyDeleteToo bad we didn't see Wesneski all year.
Wesneski. Damn.
ReplyDeleteSorry to see Wesneski go. Thought he was in our plans down the road....

I agree. Worth the gamble. I hope its not the only move.
DeleteI'm guessing sidearm pitchers are in vogue now...maybe we should find a submarine pitcher...is Ted Abernathy available?

ReplyDeleteOlney just tweeted it’s the Padres. Oakland gets Eguy Rosario, “highly touted prospect.”
ReplyDeleteApparently this is not true. Sorry

ReplyDeleteWhat would the trade deadline be without a few stories that weren't true, Doug?
