Game 132: Beer & chicken time

The 2011 Red Sox went 7-20 in September.
I don't know what made me think of them.

  1. With the season possibly hanging in the balance and the team in freefall, who ya' gonna call? Hicksie, your worst everyday outfielder. This is stupidity on the grand scale. Hicks shouldn't even be on the roster, much less in the starting lineup.

  2. How did that Sox team ever possibly NOT make the playoffs? Look at the guys they had: Ellsbury, Youkilis, Ortiz, Adrian Gonzalez, Pedroia, Carl Crawford.

They usually wailed on us—took 12 of 18. I remember I went up to see a game in Fenway in August, and they came back, tied it up against Rivera in the 9th, and beat Hughes in the 10th. I was thinking, no way we can beat this team. Even in late August, they were still 2 games up. Then we went into Fenway, beat them 2 of 3—and they collapsed.

Trouble was mostly, I think, Lackey was hurt and ineffective, so they had almost no pitching after Lester and Beckett. I've never been so happy watching a Yankees team lose, the last day of the season—toggling back and forth to watch them lose to Baltimore, after two were out an nobody on in the 9th.

Of course, we managed to blow our ALDS against the Tigers...

  3. Just heard that Donaldson might have to leave at any time do attend the birth of his child. Maybe they should name the kid
"Wally Pipp Donaldson" because the Yankees are better off without him.

  4. I am hungry and tired and sober and still at work. As these fucktards (not you Aaron) are going to infuriate me! (NOT YOU HICKS! THE OTHER OTHER! THE GOOD AARON!) They are going to suck and lose as only a team that led the leagues in wins, winning % and run differential that the break can suck.

    Fuck it. I'm ordering Chinese.

    Fuck.

  5. And off the glove of Donaldson.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Should have been IKF (gold glove at THIRD.) The two oswalds and DJ

    ReplyDelete
  7. Torres, Donaldson and Hicks shouldn't be playing. Though who to put in center on this crap surface is difficult. Locastro still with the team?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Bring up Florial and give him a meaningful trail--not just 9 PA as in the last go-round. He couldn't be any worse than the current clown car of centerfielders and would most likely be better.

  9. My MLB Yankees game just became the Tigers game. WTF?

Have to watch the Tampa feed.

  10. Dwayne Stats is announcing for TB.

  11. I mean radio play by play for the Yankees--don't think I've heard this guy before.

  12. Fuck. Now Benintendi is hurt.

  13. Sorry, ECB. Can't help you there.

  14. Boone has gone to the seeds!

That can't be great news for Benny.

    NO BUBBLES, PEOPLE!!!!

It's a good story. Glad for him.

  16. Boring game. Terrible lineup.

  17. Hey here's an idea. Take Donaldson the fuck out of the game. His mind is elsewhere.

Make the line up - and I repeat myself...

Should have been IKF (gold glove at THIRD.) The two oswalds and DJ

    ReplyDelete
  18. Donaldson. He's 36. He's had a very good career. Fucking release him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Winny - perhaps they should release both Donaldson and Hicks after the 7th inning stretch

    ReplyDelete
  20. Now. They should release them both now. Play the rest of the game with a short bench. Who the fuck cares.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Another embarrassing loss unfolding before our eyes. Whoever is writing the lineup (still unconvinced it’s boonedock) needs to be fired.

    ReplyDelete
  22. so first and second again. 4th time. no runs.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 0-7 with RISP and Oswaldo2 still on the bench. The fuck is the point?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Game is off. Yankees have sucked since John Sterling stopped traveling with the team.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We keep watching the same game. All that's missing is the solo shot by Judge.

  26. Game over.

    Accountability?
    Responsibility?

    ReplyDelete
  27. BTR...there is no accountability....EVER! The coaches take the wrath.

This is the worst hitting team of all time. Worse than the '62 Mets.
Oddly, the only inning I watched, O'Neill said he'd like to query the Yankees hitters to see if his theory is correct that they are all just guessing what pitches will be thrown to them instead of watching the pitches thrown.

  28. Boone looks like he wants to cry.

I guess Paulie could zoom them because he's not allowed in the locker room.

  29. Wellness check on Ralph Nader. He doing OK?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Doug - Boone wishes it was over.

Remember - he seeded like a madman after Benny blew out his wrist on that swing.

  33. I’m embarrassed and ashamed.
I can take the losing. I just can’t take the bullshit by Boone, Cashman, Steinbrenner….the cynicism of ownership, of management….
It’s better if we lose every game from here on in. Hope Aaron Judge does leave, he doesn’t deserve this. This thing needs to be blown up, everyone is expendable.

My condolences to all Yankee fans, here and everywhere.

  34. Oh, where to start? I swore I would not watch this game. Then I turned it on—and immediately, Donaldson made an error. Sorry, his FIRST error.

So, Donaldson and his "partner" already have one child. But...somehow they could not figure out how NOT to have the second one in September. Right. How did that conversation go?

"I'd love another child, dear, but won't it come right in the middle of your busy season?"

"Ah, fuck it, hon. They're giving me $24 mill a year. Those idiots will accept anything, so I take a few days off down the stretch, so what????"

    ReplyDelete
  35. How many ways can you say it?

This team is a disgrace. 500 relief pitchers, and they have to pitch a back-up infielder? Why not activate Cashman and have HIM throw that inning?

I dunno. Every day is a new low. Benintendi is hurt? Wonderful—another excuse for The Brain.

It's inexcusable that Boone can't motivate this team. It's inexcusable that they cannot motivate themselves. If I never see Donaldson, IKF, Torres, Hicks, or Stanton play again...it will be too soon.

  36. I think we really have to question whether the Yankees will finish with a winning record this year. They need 3 more. Can they go 3-27? I seriously do not know.

    1. Unfortunately they will, nothing will change until maybe next year when excess garbage like Donaldson, Hicks, Cole, and Stanton have less gas in the tank and Judge has walked. Even then they will spin it like Judge had no loyalty and they did everything they could to put a winner on the field.

  37. Donaldson's last home run was the famous walk-off grand slam. 0-43 PA since then, in terms of home runs. All of 3 RBI—all in that Oakland blow-out.

12 walks, 30 Ks, on the month.

IKF has driven in all of 7 runs on the month. 2 in the Oakland blowout, 3 in the Boston win, when he had all the ribbies. He had 3 extra-base hit in August, 7 BB, 18 Ks.

    Gleyber in August: 2 HR, 5 RBI. 2 doubles. 3 BBs, 33 Ks—a ratio I find incredible.

This team is shot to hell. It won't come back. Not this year, or the next year, or until sometime in the future when both Brian Cashman and Hal Steinbrenner are long gone.

  38. For a team that is already the oldest in the American League, letting Judge walk at age 30 might be a blessing--you're going to end up paying him an extortionate sum for his declining years, as the Yankees are already doing with Donaldson, Hicks, Stanton, Cole, LeMahieu, etc., from here unto oblivion.

    ReplyDelete
  39. LOL. I wonder what did make you think of them?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Boycott,

    or go to the Stadium and chant;

    FIRE CASHMAN,

    LET'S PLAY SOCCER,

SELL THE TEAM OR JUST DIE

From the sidewalk out side of course.
    Wouldn't that be great?
Get a couple of thousand fans outside who have been drinking in nearby bars and start a chant during say end of the 6th., after Stanton, Torres and Hicks have K'ed..

Kept. my pledge. I didn't watch an inning, but for some reason I bought 6 skids of computer paper from W.B. Mason.

  41. Just for laughs and in a totally non-Analytics way...

    Judge has 51 home runs
Judge has 113 RBI's, 51 he batted himself in and 62 where he batted in someone else
Judge has scored 104 runs, 51 on his HR's and another 53 when he was batted in by someone else (hard as that is to believe)

My unscientific count has Judge accounting for 166 of the team's 652 runs (25%)

If Judge walks and is replaced by Master Boot, entirely possible...

Projecting Boot's totals this season to match the number of games Judge has played Boot would have accounted for 92 runs. Again, unscientific.

A drop-off of 74 runs would put the Yankees squarely in a tie with Minnesota, 16th in all of MLB.

Bright side though, they'll save lots of money.
