"More than one Yankee player has told his agent this week that playing at the Stadium last weekend was an unusually brutal experience. It was hard for many teammates to believe that fans booed Judge. Even a difficult person and underperformer like Josh Donaldson was turned into a somewhat sympathetic figure internally by the force of the jeering."

  1. The booing was classless. But I'm some fans were expressing their disgust at management. Keep it up, HAL, after another quarter century of first or second round playoff eliminations, the booing will be enough to bring the whole place down and the franchise will be known for being the greatest losers in team sports.

  3. I hope that the ghost of Thurman Munson haunts these wusses.
They should just make their millions in Miami or TB or other easy cities that don't actually care if the team wins or Pitt and Baltimore and KC when they become overjoyed when they are competitive.

  4. The Yankees hit .162/.232/.269 (.502 OPS) with 50 Ks in the ALCS, losing to the same team for the fourth time in eight years.

    Did they expect cheers?

  5. Maybe free agents will not come to NY now.
On the bright side we won't over pay for 30 something guys whose salaries are based on past performance with no guarantee that they will perform as well here.
Perhaps pour that money into scouting and development and get home grown players who are happy to play before an involved fan base.
The south of the border kids are used to that "enthusiasm ."

  6. Welcome to New York. Play well and you'll be cheered like crazy. Suck and you'll be booed.

It's the natural order of things. And how can anyone at all have sympathy for Donaldson? Maybe Gio wouldn't have played any better (though I think he would've), but at least he's not a dick.

  7. The players are professionals, many of whom earn more in a year than the average fan earns in a lifetime. They should expect to be booed when they don’t produce.

The acquisition of Donaldson was unsupportable by any means. Offensively, he was outperformed by Gio by any metric, although the shills will decry that Donaldson was the better fielder, though I thought Gio was a terrific fielder in his time here. It speaks volumes about Cashman’s ego, arrogance, and overall lack of judgment that he would acquire Donaldson.

May I start banging the drum now for Trea Turner in free agency? Other than the fact that he is a RH hitter, he would be a terrific fit.

  8. Yeah, I'll bet it was brutal ... playing at Yankee Stadium and failing in every sense of the word.

  9. Poor sensitive millionaire souls. It's only fair they have a shoulder to cry on.

  10. If you think the booing was brutal, watching this team during the post-season was even more brutal...
