This dogsled race to Hell is called the Golden Snowball, and make no mistake - Syracuse is the dynasty of this slushy mess.
The Salt City averages 128 inches of snow per winter - two feet more than runner-up Rochester. That said, Buffalo won the 2021-22 honor.
As of today, they're off and running.
Our daughter is in the process of narrowing down colleges. University of Rochester, Syracuse, and Cornell all made the cut. She doesn't drive so I'll be doing a whole bunch of snow driving.

ReplyDeleteMildred, it has a very walkable campus. Shuttle from the airport is $20.
Even at out of state tuition rate AND travel costs, it's much cheaper than the ice palaces.
It helps if she's interested in oceanography.
Thank you Rufus. She's laser-focused on a PhD in chemical engineering and unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, married to the idea of staying in the northeast. I kind of love her so I'm glad she's not going too far away.
DeleteMIT ChemE 1982. Led to a life of adventure.
ReplyDeleteShe's going to apply to MIT, along with Cornell one of her two dream schools. Low acceptance rate but she's got a shot at both.

ReplyDeleteJudge wins MVP.
ReplyDelete28/30 first-place votes.
Only two writers to vote for Ohtani were the Angels beat reporters.
Well earned, big man.
Buffalo is about to hit like 10 grand slams.
ReplyDeleteLosing to Binghamton would be the ultimate insult
ReplyDeleteU. of R. campus has gotten semi-dangerous since the walk bridge across the river was built.
ReplyDeleteCornell is hilly for walkers and drivers.
SU seems more self-contained once you get there.
None of these are pleasant from November til April, with rain, snow, gray and wind.
But, they all beat Oswego!
My $.02.
[Grew up in Rochester, Went to SU, best friend went to Cornell]
My sister and a couple friends went to Cornell. Great school, lovely campus. But she ought to learn to drive if she's going to be there for four years.
