Yankees said to be "interested" in many free agents! If so, why not send Aaron Judge a message that the team really means to win in 2023?

O, excitement! O, joy! O, glee! Yahoo!

The mighty NY Yankees are said to be "intrigued" by several bigly stars currently strutting their stuff on the MLB free agent catwalk.

If the Bombers don't secure Aaron Judge, who knows what big names will come to Gotham in the human form of Hal Steinbrenner's low-cut, cleavage-baring revenge dress? (Remember: In the bygone days after Robbie Cano left for Seattle, the owner snagged Jacoby Ellsbury.) If Judge departs for SF or LA, Hal will have about $40 million to invest in Thanksgiving leftovers. Is J.A. Happ still out there?

But but BUT... if they do sign Judge? Well, we've seen that movie, too. (It stars Pauly Shore and Yahoo Serious.) With Judge in tow, Hal can then finish second in the remaining free agent auctions and be the team that nearly signed Verlander, Rodon, et al, being outbid by owners who lack fiscal prudence.

Insert sigh here.

I cannot recall a November when the Yankees' short and long term futures were so completely out of their own hands.

But here's a thought...

If Hal REALLY wants to assure Judge that he intends to win next year - rather than use Judge as the marquee name on a tired, aging roster - wouldn't it be smart to sign a stud free agent or two... NOW?

It would show him the Yankees really mean business. (Because some of us still aren't really sure if they do.)

Just asking. Meanwhile...we're, gulp, interested? Yippee. Where's the bathroom?

  1. The truth is, with this front office and the level of mediocrity and ineptitude they accept, even if Judge does sign with us he will probably be Joggying through his stellar career without ever having to leave the Yankees. They cannot assemble a team good enough to advance to the WS anyway.
If he does sign with the Giants I dont doubt the snivelling weasels will release confidential details of the negotiations (like they did with Jeter) and alienate Judge completely.

So much smoldering, post Thanksgiving Yankees drama and intrigue I can barely sleep!

SOMETHING BIG IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN in the Yankee Universe.

    Better steady yourselves. . .

  3. Yes AA, Cashman and Hal just their first post-Thanksgiving BM, and we here now how BIG those can be.

  4. Sports talk radio has been putting the "good enough to make the playoffs" Yankees philosophy front and center. Commentators have clearly stated that Hal and Cashman are not interested in winning a WS, but are fine with putting in a winning regular season, and the money keeps rolling in. The obvious disconnect with fan sentiment and the tone deaf press conferences are there for all to see, and it's widely noticed now.

Not that Hal or Cashman care. But the truth is out there.

  5. 1) Yahoo Serious!

Wow! Awesome reference. Used to follow his exploits on MySpace.

    2) I hope we don't sign Verlander.

I know he's not Randy Johnson or Kevin Brown but I can't shake the feeling that if we sign him... he will be.

  6. That is a really good idea, Duque. You have watched the same Yankees we all have. How they operate, leaves me wondering. Will they mess the process up again?

  7. @ Doug....I was thinking the exact same thing about Verlander and DeGrom. But none of that matters as Hal is not going to spend what it takes to sign either of them. If he re-ups Judge, then his wad will be shot. The only other FA I see him signing is Bellinger and conditioned on a cheap 1-year contract with a couple of additional years with club options.

Everyone should realize that even though we always see Hal with a serious demeanor, 99% of the time he is laughing with gusto at all the Yankees fans. Right in our faces.

  8. Indeed. We've been played this way many too many times before.

  9. It's not about winning, el Duque, it's about process. Hal feels good about that process.

All Yankee fans should feel relieved. The Yankees have a process.
