Of course...

IKF leads off... At least Donaldson isn't batting clean up... Yet.

Well, we made it. At long last there's baseball to watch. Unless you live in NYC then you're out of luck. So to sum up... IKF leading off, no one in NY can watch... got it. Plus, the beginning of the Jake Bauers era!

Here is your game thread.

Let's hope Jasson hits at least one today.  Any thought's on what Sterling's HR call will be?

I really liked him in Platoon.

  3. PROBABLE

Jasson hits one to Mars. He really is “My Favorite Martian!”

A rocket off the bat of the Martian. It is High. It is Far. It is… GONE! … Jasson put that ball into orbit!

Jasson launches one. It is High. It is Far. It is… GONE! … He really is “My Favorite Martian!”

    PREFERRED

IIH etc. A home run for the Martian. Put that in your Chronicle!

  4. Two more...

IIH etc. The Martian launches it into orbit. If only Bill Bixby lived long enough to see this day.

It is high. It is far... It is GONE! The Martian launches one to Mars! Eep... Opp... Ork... Ah-Ah!

  5. Cabrera can't do any better than #95? He played for 2 1/2 months, and started multiple postseason games. Maybe it's his choice. Maybe. Some of the young 'unsbthese days like to pretend they're defensive ends But come on. Give the man a baseball number, for chrissake.

  6. Pub, we’re running out of numbers ! I suppose Gardner’s #11 can’t be worn for 20 years because…?

And can someone explain why Billy Martin’s # was retired?

  7. Been watching a lot of Sesame Street with my kid, so while we're daydreaming:

"IIH etc., Jasson sends it to Mars! Yip yip yip yip, uh huh uh huh."

Here are the other Yankees that wore Number 1

    Bobby Murcer (1969-1974)
    Bobby Richardson (1958-1966)
    Billy Martin (1951-1957, RET)
    Snuffy Stirnweiss (1945-1950)
    Tuck Stainback (1944)
    Frankie Crosetti (1937-1944)
    Roy Johnson (1936)
    Earle Combs (1929-1935)

So maybe they said it was Billy so he wouldn't comeback from the dead and sucker punch Hal but really it was Bobby Murcer

  9. And Wilmer Difo's wearing Willie Randolph's number. Others have worn it thru the years, yes, but as btr999 points out Gardner's being protected, as ONeill was for a very long time. The 21st century Yankees seem intent on trolling...if not infuriating...their fanbase.

  10. re Billy Martin, Scranton has a "Legend's Race" every game. Like Milwaukee's sausages and DC's presidents. It's Mick, Joe D, Thurm...and Billy. Billy's never won. It's been going on for years now. And thy usually find creative ways for him to lose. It's amusing.

  11. Brett Gardner played hard and sacrificed his body. Got a championship in 2009 as a bench player. But retire Gardner's #? Yanks have lost their reason. He doesn't rank up there in performance with any of the retired numbers.

  12. Gardner's not even the best #11 in the last 30 years. That's Knoblauch, and they're not retiring his number.

  13. First regret of the season:

I'm watching the Phillies broadcast on the MLB app and they open with Harper hitting HRs in the playoffs. Left handed batter. Lifelong Yankee fan. All I could think was, "What might have been."

    I'm two minutes in.

  14. and first batter...

IKF - One pitch. Ground out. We're doomed!

The broadcast doesn't have the pitch clock on screen.

    Gleyber up... doubles. We're saved.

    I'm done.

  15. LISTEN, we all know that one day we will look back at the 2023 roster and laugh that we managed even a smidgen of belief in their ability to win a pro game. But denial is strong and we must force ourselves to believe or life will have no meaning and then...well, then we're forced to sit with our feelings and that is unacceptable. So we soldier on.

IN THE MEANTIME, THOUGH, an event is swirling in the distance...

We may or may not moon Big Papi.

We may or may not construct a human chain sign saying “FOOD STAMPS HAL”

But we may do something else, and we will be at the game as a unit - a coordinated, highly trained, commando JUJU INTERVENTION TEAM and we have a date for it, the only viable weekday day game in the whole season.

A "Mastercard Half-Price Game" against the Nationals on Thursday, August 24th at 1:05PM seems to be the best time.

Let's start gauging how many of us can get together and then we can do a group buy of cheap seats in the high sections.

And if you want to write, aim it at: motelsign (@) protonmail.com and obviously leave out the parentheses and the spaces.
You don’t have to commit now but, but it would be nice to have a rough number as we peruse tickets.

We may get slightly better than horrible tickets, as well, but we don't want people to not come due to money issues. The main thing is to be at the stadium and, honestly, to contribute as little as possible to Hal's personal harem fund.

Who thinks they might make it?

  16. Again, I'm up for it, Bitty.

And...no game in NYC? Is there some reason for this?

  18. I predicted the shot to Uranus. Too bad he didn’t point to it

  19. Nice.

And hey, for No. 1, NO, it should not be Martin's number that's retired.

Murcer, sure. But also, how 'bout Earle Combs, who's career ended prematurely due to injury, but was still a lifetime .325 hitter and HOFer, leading off for Murderers' Row?

Somehow, he don't get no respect.
