Sevi is a free agent at the end of the year. I smell extension.
We need starters... This is from the earlier thread...
Hey how about Gleyber plus a minor league pitcher in a return to the Cubs for Hayden Wesneski? To the A's for Waldicchuk? To the Cardinals for Jordan Montgomery? Let's clear up our infield situation and repair some of the damage here!
Please see my last comment on the previous thread. I did not notice this thread. Hint- Yoendrys Gomez, all recovered from his 2021 torn UCL and fresh off a 50 inn HighA/AA last season. Casham and Hal love him cuz he will be on ML minimum salary.
One other thought because I'm becoming THAT guy...
Not enough time in-between pitches for the arm to recover. You know, the league recently took suggestions from the players and managers to see if they needed to tweak the clock rules and Sevi suggested that they add five seconds to the pitch clock with no one on base.
MLB rejected all of the suggestions. Now he's hurt. This will be an epidemic across the league by May. Just sayin'.
I was waiting for this, just like the inevitable Stanton and Hicks injuries. Never cared for Severino, a couple of good years, now damaged goods. He had the same injury last year and missed more than 2 months. He’ll be 30 next year. Almost as bad an extension as Hicks. The well is dry of pitchers, we must rely on the likes of German and Schmidt. Right now our best MiL P is Will Warren who hasn’t even sniffed AAA yet. Next up would be the dyslexic Jhony Brito and (gulp) Deivi Garcia. Or, we could simply burn out our bullpen by using openers. And hey - who’s better at changing pitchers than Boone? ( Answer: Anyone) Abreau looked awful yesterday, maybe he’s hurt too?
Say what you will about Cole, at least he takes the ball every 5 days.
Doug, you know I highly respect your opinions, but not enough time between pitches? That seems like a stretch. For decades, pitchers pitched at this pace and I don't recall them dropping like flies.
I do realize that today's hurlers may have "grown up" with different circumstances, but still. Sevvy is always one small complaint away from the IL. If he's not well enough to pitch with a clock, he's not well enough to pitch.
But I will be watching to see if we get a pandemic of similar afflictions. That will be difficult considering how fragile so many pitchers are these days.
Back when Severino was still in the minors Keith Law predicted that he'd be injury prone as a starter because of this mechanics. Yeah, I know, predicting a pitcher will be injury prone is always a damned good bet. I hope to HELL that the Yankees pass on giving him a big contract.... Cashman must figure out a trade to clear out the infield and bring in a starter (a couple of weeks ago I would have wished for a left fielder, now this has become a team with one star position player, two star starters one of which is hurt, and a some bullpen pieces). This season is obviously on the brink.
Yankees break ballplayers like breadsticks. At what point will Cashman, the trainers/development/medical staff be held accountable for their incompetence? Or for that matter, when will Mike Fishman and his gang of sabermorons be fired for giving bad advice to every other part of management (including the metrics that drive development and training)?
20% of the 40 man roster will start the season on the IL. Several others (notably Nestor) will need to gingerly begin the season, lest the join the party in the trainer's room.
Complaints about management incompetence aside, I have to echo Doug K's concern, what impact does the speed clock have on pitching arms? Hmmmmm........
Well said, Dr. T! And I'll be interested to see if it does make a difference, Doug. Of course, with the geniuses in MLB, we won't know until, as you say, the injured pitchers look like the casualties after the Battle of Atlanta in "Gone with the Wind."
Donald Duck will be the 3B for the entire year and IKF will be the SS for the entire year. They'll send Volpe back down, because that's what they do best. Just like they already sent the Martian down, when he was hitting .455.
And yeah, Setback Sevvy, way to go, Cashman will re-sign him for an 80 mil, 4 year contract this time.
I hear Javier Vasquez is available. Kevin Brown probably is too, unless he's been killed in a bar fight. Ca$hole could probably get both of them for $10mil each and the two highest rated prospects.
Yes, I know the intern wouldn't need to give up prospects, but he could manage to do it. I Kei Agawa still playing?
After leaving American baseball after the 2011 season, Kei returned to the Japanese leagues and pitched until 2015. Retired with a 99-83 record and a 3.41 ERA, at the age of 35. He pitched reasonably well until his last season, when his 14.40 ERA mirrored his 13.50 ERA in his last tour with the Yankees.
I don't know what happened to that guy. His performances were predictably competent throughout his career, except when playing in the MLB. Maybe he got Joba'd to death by the Yankee 'brain trust.' He wouldn't be the first and he won't be the last.

Is this a joke? Really!
ReplyDeleteDonaldson use to pitch in pre-school SO put him in the rotation as our fifth starter and POOF logjam eliminated.
ReplyDeleteUse Schmidt and someone else hovering around the AAAs as our three and four starters and we’ll be fine.
FINE I tell you.
Express train to the championship.
Tickets please!
Duck hit another HR today. He'll be our third baseman for at least three months.

BTR, at least Cole shows up. These days, that's something.

What happened to Kei Igawa Doctor T, was that he could not get out Major League hitters and not Japanese hitters at the time.
