Juan Soto trade rumors open thread

As of this posting, it looks as though it's Michael King, Drew Thorpe, a catcher or two, and mystery guests.

Waiting for the bomb to drop...

  1. La Greca's take on WFAN? If the Yankees do this, then the Mets might outbid them for Soto in 2025. Hmmmmm.

  2. The consensus right now: King, Thorpe, Brito and Vasquez.

Only medicals and minor details to go on Juan Soto trade talks with the Padres and Yankees. The principles are telling folks they expect the deal done fairly soon. Once done, NYY will also get Trent Grisham in deal to back up their revamped starting OF of Soto, Judge and Verdugo.

  4. OK, just for jollies. An OF of Soto, the Martian, and Judge.

Holy fuck. I'll take that. But if King is part of the deal, I'll really miss him.

The #Yankees have also selected reliever Kervin Castro in the MiLB Rule 5 Draft, who had a 106.9 Stuff+ and 2.30 ERA in his limited sample size in Triple-A this past season. He's currently on the IL after undergoing Tommy John Surgery this past June, but is only 24 years old.

Unironically, the #Yankees are going through the medicals of the Juan Soto trade with the #Padres per Jon Heyman.

    MEDICALS.

    LOL!!

  7. Grisham reported to be included in a salary dump by SD. SD also looking for young C, Gus Ramirez is rumored.

Meanwhile Cashman has left NSH, nothing may confirmed today…

  8. I chuckled silently for 4.8 seconds when I read:

    MEDICALS.

    LOL!!

    Thanks, JM

  9. Well…according to Jack Curry, it’s a-happenin’!

  10. I long for the days when all my friends used to sneer: "The Yankees buy their championships."

    And I sneer right back.

  11. The deal is done. King, Brito, Vasquez, Higishioka, and Thorpe for Soto and Grisham.

  12. Don't want to give up King.

What r we getting? One year of Soto? A freaking rental?

I love Soto. I am a Nationals fan (too) -- 2019 was a treat he helped provide. Have you ever looked at his BB numbers?

    But. but. buttttt.......one year?

  13. Not to worry. The Yankees also signed Dennis Santana to a minor league deal. (2023 with the Mets: 10.67 innings, 7 earned runs).

  14. I know there is no such thing as a pitching prospect but we are giving away an awful lot of pitchers in this and the Verdugo trade and I wonder if by sheer numbers a couple of them will come back to haunt us.

And SOto being a rental worries me as obviously he instantly improves the team but I don't think enough to make us anywhere near one of the favourites for the World Series next season as there are far too many gaps in the team hitting and pitching still.

  15. Here’s the medicals you’re looking for:

    What’s his WAR?

  16. Juan Soto trade agreement is being finalized now, source confirms.

    The deal, as
    @JackCurryYES
    and
    @Joelsherman1
reported, sends Soto and Trent Grisham to New York for Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez, and Kyle Higashioka.

  17. Joel Sherman: trade between the Yankees and Padres sending Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to New York is now completed. The teams to make it official some time tonight.

  18. Hopefully Soto likes playing for the Yankees, they like him, and sign him to an extension. They still need YY. The players we lost might windup having career WAR numbers that will be close to a good year by Soto. Still, The Brain still has some holes to fill and you never can tell about the all important team chemistry. You can't look chemistry up on baseball-reference, but most of us have read enough baseball books by players to know that it IS VERY IMPORTANT. For now, let's enjoy the dream of Soto and Judge hitting back-to-back. And hell, who knows that Stanton stays reasonably healthy and hits the hell out of the ball. Far stranger things have happened.

  19. Look Ma! No more pitchers! Fuck Soto

  20. True enough, Kev. But it's hard to picture Judge unable to get along with anyone. And it's hard to picture any clubhouse more dysfunctional than the Yankees of 1977-78...

  21. There goes The Admiral’s personal catcher - but - I must say - I kinda like it more than I hate it. Now get the Admiral!!!

  22. Might be a lineup worth watching:

    DJ
    Judge
    Soto
    Stanton
    Rizzo
    Gleyber
    Verdugo
    Volpe

  23. Three lefty hitters at Yankee Stadium - will miracles never cease!

  24. LET THE RIVER RUN!
LET ALL THE DREAMERS WAKE THE NATION!
    COME, THE NEW JERUSALEM.
    SILVER CITIES RISE...

    IT'S ASKING FOR THE TAKING
    TREMBLING, SHAKING.
    OH, MY HEART IS ACHING,
    WE'RE COMING TO THE EDGE,
    RUNNING ON THE WATER
    COMING THROUGH THE FOG,
    YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS!

Ahem. Okay, I'm calm now. We, uh, still need to get Yamamoto. Still need to get a couple more pitchers, probably, if we're going to contend. But...

    COME RUN WITH ME NOW
THE SKY IS THE COLOR OF BLUE
    YOU'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN
IN THE EYES OF YOUR LOVER...
    LET THE RIVER RUN!
LET ALL THE DREAMERS WAKE THE NATION!

  25. Good. Great. But he can be streaky. And moody. Will we love him next December?
