The Martian

The most recent great Yankee hope, Jasson Dominguez, is out with a "significant oblique strain. "

That means a minimum of 8 weeks sitting in a hot tub and being removed from the water with a back-hoe, so that no strain is put upon the torso.

Then, he has to get back into baseball shape ( another month ). And let's just note that swinging a bat  " in extremis" is what causes these injuries.

In my opinion, we will not see him in the Bronx this year.  He cannot represent "the cavalry" to rescue this shaky Yankee team.

There are some players whose careers are marked by debilitating injuries every season. Jasson is fitting that profile to perfection.

The good news is that his Tommy John surgery could be fully healed by then.

See you in Tampa.

  1. Kinda two things baseball players need to be consistently successful:

    Healthy obliques

    Healthy medial elbow ligaments

Oh well - hopefully his hammies and groin are sound.

  2. Spot on Alphonso.

All the more reason to make every effort to re-sign Soto.

  3. Yep. And again, if they'd dealt Jasson for Soto two years ago, maybe Soto would have put us over the top in 2022—and we'd still have Michael King.

Then again, two years away from the Yanks' crack coaching and training staffs, and The Martian would probably be breaking records.

  7. Can't blame Boone for that one. Oy

  8. JM - You have my permission to blame Boone.

  9. JM - How about using Tonkin, our only semi reliable reliever in the second inning of a blow out?

  11. Picked a good day to forget that the game was on early. Saw the score and wondered who made the safety.
The good news is I got the recessed lights installed in the kitchen.

...and the house hasn't burned down.

All in all, a win win.

  12. Whatever became of the concept of "long reliever"?

  13. Rufus, that's an excellent point. It seems that the team's idea is to shuttle pitchers back and forth from Scranton... Questionable efficacy.

I'll put a slightly positive(?) spin on today's ass-kicking. Perhaps The Brain gets a sense of urgency regarding the roster? Ummmm, that could cause panic. Perhaps we drink the memory away.....

  14. I’m feeling sad for Gil.

He’s one of the “Shining” Lights of our season.

I hope this is just a bump in the road and he’ll steady his ship . . . BUT . . . he is a New York Yankee and the brain trust just . . . really can’t be trusted to get him adjusted.

    Grumble Grumble

  15. Hoss, you're spot on. The time to trade for Soto was back when he became available, when the Nats were doing their garage sale.

And when they crap the bed this year, there probably won't be any need to sign Soto to a long term mega deal. Because they ain't winning anything for a loooooooooooooong while. Might as well go with the youth.

  16. They needed to sign Hader over the winter, which of course they didn't do.

Then they needed to have a couple of young arms in the bullpen to be versatile long relievers. Which of course they didn't do.

They'll run their ball club the way they want. And it increasingly looks like they're trying NOT to win again this year. Just a puppet show, a masquerade. Been going on since 2010.
