My brother thinks the Yanks should make Gil the closer for the last few weeks and the postseason. Holmes sucks, Gil has been good, he's over 140 innings (which in the old days was nothing but in today's game is nearing panic level for young pitchers) and with Schmidt back the Yankees' need is greater at closer than in the rotation. .... Personally, I disagree. Gil has been a starter pretty much all through his pro career, through several seasons in the minors. I don't like the idea of taking a young pitcher who is doing well and putting him in an unfamiliar role during the pressure cooker of New York in the playoffs. I'm not sure who the closer is, but I don't think it should be Gil. ... I'm curious what everyone else thinks.
I agree with you, Bern. Not a good idea. The kid has never pitched in relief at all. Plus, his control is too lousy for closing. And they need him in the rotation. Cole, Gil, Schmidt, Rodent. That could work.
Which, of course, brings up the question .... who the hell does close in the playoffs? Kahnle? Weaver? Hamilton? .... Nestor? (I'm thinking Kahnle might have an edge, but it's probably whoever looks best the last couple weeks)
At this point, it doesn’t really make sense to have him close. Looks like the team intends to put Cortes in the ‘pen for the post season. As I’ve said, the team needs to develop young coders in the minors
Cousins is frustrated and annoyed. He could smell the festering black mold in Boone’s brain approaching the mound and will toss a spearmint tic tac into his pie hole to distract his reeling mind away from the stankiness
Ed Kranepool - rest in peace. or power. or whatever. I was always a Yankee fan, but 1969 was all about the Mets and every kid in my neighborhood was rooting for them.
Glad to have slept through a coin-flip win. Let's face it. Once the relief staff fails to allow the Yanks to escape the 9th inning with a lead, the ghost-runner game is air hockey.

Vertigo and Trevino tonight. "Best lineup" my ass.
ReplyDeleteWild as hell.
ReplyDeleteWild? As Hell?
ReplyDeleteGil. Wild at heart.
ReplyDeleteHere comes the run
ReplyDelete(Bottom of the Sixth)
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad we had to face Cy Young again tonight.
ReplyDeleteI think this Soto guy might be pretty good.
ReplyDeleteFeet are overrated for hitting.
ReplyDeleteSoto woke up.
ReplyDeleteWe don't need no fucking feets.
ReplyDeleteSmart move by Boone. Get Holmes in to blow the save early tonight, rather than torture us in the 9th.
ReplyDeleteHolmes in early to give up the lead
ReplyDeleteOne dozen blown saves by Clayber
ReplyDeleteHolmes finally gets an out , but the guy had clocked it. Eight pitches, and he gave up two hits and a liner.
ReplyDeleteOf course, it's now 2-2.
He really sucks. So does Trevino.

ReplyDeleteCreative double play on the part of Trivino. Asshole.

ReplyDeleteWho needs the martian when we have pauly and bighead?
ReplyDeleteFuck Ca$hole and the Nepo baby. And fuck bonehead for obeying their orders.
Pinch hit the Martian
ReplyDeleteHe's percolating on the bench. Might be ready by next week. Or not.
DeleteThat’s the second time I’ve seen Cousins pick a guy off first this week. Spiffy.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, it doesn’t really make sense to have him close. Looks like the team intends to put Cortes in the ‘pen for the post season. As I’ve said, the team needs to develop young coders in the minors
ReplyDeleteKay keeps talking about the Yankees “walking it off”, as if that might really happen.
ReplyDeleteDidn’t $man or Boone say there was a lane for Dominguez? If he’s not pinch-hitting in the 9th tonight, what lane is it? The exit ramp?
ReplyDeleteStanton/Verdugo/Volpe in the bottom of the ninth with 3 weak AB’s.
ReplyDeleteSometimes these extra inning games are the saddest things in the world.
ReplyDeleteTrevino couldn’t throw out the garbage.
ReplyDeleteSadness
ReplyDeleteI hate this fucking team.
ReplyDeleteFucking assholes.
ReplyDeleteCousins is frustrated and annoyed. He could smell the festering black mold in Boone’s brain approaching the mound and will toss a spearmint tic tac into his pie hole to distract his reeling mind away from the stankiness
ReplyDeleteWhy the fuck is Wells sitting in the bench. Or more to the point, why is travinio still starting? Did I miss something?
ReplyDeleteThe WELLS!!!
ReplyDeleteYankees Win!!!
ReplyDeleteWinny can U hear me?
ReplyDeleteThat was a big Yankee win.
ReplyDeleteWe won an extra innings game. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteEd Kranepool - rest in peace. or power. or whatever. I was always a Yankee fan, but 1969 was all about the Mets and every kid in my neighborhood was rooting for them.
ReplyDeleteCortes as the playoff closer. He seems to have more game, and balls than the others.
ReplyDeleteFab pic, AboveAverage!
