Game Thread ~ "NO ANSWERS - because they're all too raw and emotional"

  1. What was that, 30 pitches? Stroman. And I see Trevino is playing over Wells. Boone, the fucking idiot.

    1. Is that Scott Proctor warming up in the bullpen?

  2. Or Proctor and Gamble. Can't tell from here.

  3. Again with the framing shit with Trevino. Jesus, even Coney.

  4. I am hoping that Boone puts Holmes back in to close out tonight's game because I really could use the added entertainment.

JM - maybe you can answer this question. At what point do you fear for a player's mental health?

  5. Cone says over the long run, when you pile up a lot of data, the importance of framing is irrefutable. Too bad each pitch and each game is not Big Data. And that's the problem with statheads. In ten years, your great framer will have an edge. In each game, not so much, if at all.

    1. Over ten years, I mean. No guarantee that it will be consistent or meaningful in any game or season. If it takes a shitload of data to reach a conclusion, the idea is not heavily based in day to day reality.

    2. Trevino is a great framer but can't throw out base stealers. I'd say that might be more important.

  6. AA, I worry more about our mental health. But Holmes is a head case now. Asking him to close only makes it worse, imo. He needs out of that role for awhile, maybe forever. Xanax wouldn't hurt, either.

  7. Regarding Wells - maybe his wrist / hand is bugging him.

  8. As for this game, it’s over. At least we won’t have to watch the bullpen blow another one.

  9. The JuJu gods are enjoying this. We are their playthings. This is the long winter of our discontent. This is our time in the desert. This is after the cell doors have clanged shut and the keys have been lost. Some of us may not ever see the other side of this.I came up as a fan in the 60s. We sucked then, but it eventually changed. I don't see a thing changing for a LONG time now. As long as people pay money to Hal to enter that giant outhouse in the Bronx and buy some shitty, Chinese-made swag. And how long can you keep that mystique going without actually winning? Look to the Red Sox for the answers. They kept that place sold out year after year of suckitude. We suck balls and there are no consequences. The gods are laughing. We are being punished for our loyalty.

  10. Leiterized.

These guys are pathetic. Below .500 for the second half of the year plus a couple/few weeks. Terrible. So Cashman and Hal. Just shit. And Boone added to the mix to single handedly lose games with his bad lineup and bullpen decisions... though to be fair, he hasn't had much to work with where the bullpen is concerned.

    Incompetence everywhere, on every level.

But the process is sound. Fuckers.

  11. 8. I want to be the fan that just accepts what the team is and goes on with their life. If Hal Steinbrenner tells me Boone is a “great manager” and deserving of an eighth season without having won a championship, awesome. If Brian Cashman tells me there’s no lane for the team’s top prospect who is untouchable in every trade request to play every day because the worst-hitting left fielder in the league needs to play, great. If Boone tells me Holmes is “the guy” for the closer role despite being the worst closer in the majors, fantastic. My life as a Yankees fan would be so much easier, so much more enjoyable if I could react that way. Or the Yankees could just operate in a way that made sense, and my life as a Yankees fan would also be much easier, much more enjoyable. (Keefe)

  12. Wow. They are very bad. It gets worse and worse every time I check on the game.

  13. Keefe has been on fire.

"9. Life as a Yankees fan shouldn’t be so stressful, so aggravating, so disappointing. It’s unbelievably easy to create the best 26-man roster possible and then play the nine best available position players from that roster nearly every day, bat them in an order that makes sense using simple logic, pull starting pitchers when they are fatigued, give relievers clean innings to come into, occasionally call for a bunt, steal or hit-and-run, never use the contact play with a runner on third and less than two outs, be honest about player performances and injuries and hold players accountable for their performances. And yet, the Yankees make it so unbelievably difficult."

Fuck the whole of organizational leadership.

  14. I'm holding out hope that Boone will say something stupid enough to get himself fired

  15. He has never won a WS or even the ALCS. How much stupider would he need to be?

  16. Duke Fucking Ellis?

He’ll be a hell of a “Name That Yankee” answer in a couple years.

  17. I shut my tv off and they start scoring...afraid to turn it back on...

  18. Of course Glassjaw makes the final out...

  19. As I am a few bucks shy of a billion, I'm not sure exactly why I care about the Yankees (much) more than Hal. I'm starting to think th at the "head case" is.....me.

  20. @JFB....can you spare a few million?
