Other thoughts...
1. Sad that The Martian, during his days in Scranton, didn't take enough fly balls in left field to approximate an MLB outfielder. Alex Verdugo hasn't been hitting, and this October could have been Jasson Dominguez's coming out party. But Doogie's glove has made a huge difference. Let's hope The Martian shows up next March with a thousand fly balls under his belt.
2. Once LA clinched, seems to me that MLB could have started toward the world series. Five off days in October seems like a huge waste of calendar. Around this time of year, New York can turn cold and miserable. They had a perfect opportunity to start the series on Wednesday, and LA would have had plenty of time to rest its staff. Did we need a Super Bowl week of hype?
3. In olden days of yore, the Yankees always seemed to have the advantage of world series experience. Not anymore. The list of Yankee starters who have played in previous world series are: Juan Soto, Anthony Rizzo and Gerrit Cole.
Damn... three more empty days to go.
Wake me up during the pregame. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSuzyn's pregame, not the yuck yuck jock bros Fox crap.
ReplyDeleteJust so we all know, what’s your preferred method of alarm for wakage, JM?
DeleteJust send around an attractive post-grad female in a latex nurse's uniform. That should do it.
DeleteOnly one - at last count there are three available
Deletewhy cover her up with latex? send her with just a Mets cap on. it'll be kinkier.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that. Throw in some catcher gear, like shin guards, chest protector, maybe even the mask. The old-fashioned kind, with lots of space between the protective bars. Nudge nudge, wink wink.
DeleteYeah, it does seem ridiculous. It's more of baseball imitating other sports—in this case, the NFL with its extra, Super Bowl hype week.
ReplyDeleteI think it's TV, not so much pre-series hype. The time slots are locked in well in advance, and they like to have 2 weekends if the series goes 7. If both LCS went 7 there would have been just a two day layoff for one team, 3 day for another. Enough to reset pitching, which all things considered seems fair and good for competition. Nevertheless, when the LCS are short-ish, the wait does feel like a very long time. Don't want to tempt fate but weather next week in the city looks pretty good.
ReplyDeleteIt’s TV. When in doubt, follow the money.
DeleteThese Yanks are more susceptible to "mental problems," a la the old NY Jets, than other Yankee dynasties. 5 days of nothing but thinking may be deadly. Blame the networks, blame the ghost of Kennesaw Mountain Landis, blame anybody, but the suffering is real. I wish we could just sedate them for 4 days and then reanimate them.
