"Class" was always a dirty word in America, land of purported upward mobility, but classism has always been as much of a thing here as it is in the UK, just not as overt. The stupid money generated now by a few select industries, including the sports industrial complex, has created a cohort of obscenely rich individuals - technical term: "assholes" - who, whether they came from poverty or not - seem to get their "generational" contract and then lose touch with all it means to be a member of the proletariat, eg: a regular Joe. I'm not going all Commie on you all here, but I have come to see this extreme form of crony capitalism as perhaps not the best thing for our society. Yes, reward hard work and merit. And yes, tax motherfuckers like Hal and his ilk, who avoid paying their fair share, who never heard the phrase, "To whom much is given, much is expected." Is that the phrase? But let me wrap this up because my temporary stent is forcing me back to bed soon. I say, and should have said just this from the start: this overpaid bag of meatloaf is either too stupid, too self-centered or too out of touch to remember that he is here to help normal people forget about the pain of existence. In other words, he's an entertainer, not the hero he thinks he is. Whatever happened to at least paying lip service to your fans? To the idea of "a common touch?" To "never forget where you came from, asshole?" Whatever happened to basic decency? Fuck these rich fucks, in other words. Fuck Ohtani. Fuck 'em. Fuck 'em all. I'm going to go to some Brooklyn Cyclones games this year. I know, they are Metsies, but they are easy for me to get to and, you know what? They are HUNGRY and they are fun. The seats are cheap and they are still real people, which was always part of the appeal of baseball. "Hey, if I squint hard enough, I could do that..." Fuck them all.
