Every other starting shortstop in the big leagues makes that play. Every single one. Volpe is unplayable. Why he is on the roster, never mind starting behind Gerritt Cole, is baffling.
Agreed, Publius. But the reason is not baffling at all. Cashman doesn't want to look as he really appears, an incompetent GM. So Volpe will remain until the public outcry exceeds Cashman's fear of being exposed as a tool.
