It is the year of Wang

This is a blast from our past, Oct. 22, 07...

Chien-Ming Wang, (5 innings, 12 earned runs)

Some shall wonder why Joe’s gone,
Some shall cry out, “What went wrong?”
Some will blame that insect throng,
But I’ll remember Chien-Ming Wang.

For sure, his ending was foregone
That night we watched our lead withdrawn.
And now, it hurts to say, “So long.”
And then to ponder Chien-Ming Wang.

Next summer, birds shall sing their song,
While happy children play along.
But we’ll remember who is gone,
Whenever we see Chien-Ming Wang.

Well...

Last year, we died on that basepath with Wang. He never ran again. Neither did we. For all the winter tablobabble about CC and AJ, it's Wang's return that gives the most hope.

He's good enough to win without his best stuff, good enough to beat Boston in Fenway. And let's face it, that's something each of us secretly wonders about CC Sabathia, Mr. National League Central. I don't recall him blowing through the AL East, as he did those AAAA powerhouses, the Pirates and Reds.

Today, we'll see if something's wrong,
We'll pray for grounders, on the lawn,
For if he flounders, hope be gone.

We really need him, Chien-Ming Wang.
