Yesterday, in the jubiliation of Jeter's HR, our Tarzan-lunged Win Warbling Voice of the Yankees, driven by Jeep, belched out a call I don't recall hearing before:
"DEREK JETER... EL CAP-I-TAN!"
Si, es Latino.
At first, I didn't notice. Then I realized it wasn't Bobby Abreu who hit the home run. It was Jeter, from Michigan, and the only connection I can figure is that he's shagging the born-again cheerleader on "Friday Night Lights," and the team plays down in Texas, near the border. Maybe John is looking to replace Bobby Abreu's "EL COMADUCE!" -- another call that gets hazier with every new explanation.
Let's face it: With Robbie Cano (DON'T YOU KNOW!) and Melky Cabrera (THE MELKMAN DELIVERS!), the Sterl has ignored their great Latino heritage. He must be feeling a need to diversify. Obviously, he's not getting a chance to gush over Edwar Ramirez, Jose Veras and Damaso Marte -- the three Gas-kateers of our arsonist bullpen.
Feeling culurally hemmed in, he's serving up a burrito dish for Jeet.
This is wrong. Right now, Michigan needs all the positive vibes it can get. Unemployment is in double-digits, newspapers are closing, Kid Rock lost Pamela, and here is the Voice of the Yankees, driven by Jeep and thundering from the Lowes Theater, importing an illegal alien home run call and turning the state's greatest pride and joy into a bean dance.
If he's going to Mexicanize anybody, how about Hideki Matusi.
