Today in the Old-Timers Game, Brian Doyle - battling Parkinson's Disease - singled and took a bow.
Once upon a time, I was a VISTA volunteer working in Louisville, Kentucky, and Doyle was a star in the World Series. After game seven, and the Yankees beat the Dodgers, a buddy and I looked up Cave City - his hometown - on the map, got in the car and drove there, convinced the entire town would be partying. We drove for an hour, pulled in around 11 p.m. and asked a service station gas pumper where we could find the best bar.
Dry county.
We drove back.
Today, the Cave City Clouter returned. Long overdue.
