Yankees GM Forfeits Future, Again

I see that everyone in the sports media are giddy over the Yankees' recent draft.  We selected a guy in the first round ( 18th pick?) who, many believe, was a top 5 or top 10 pick.  A steal for the Yankees, right?

Only problem is;  He is going to UCLA.

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting a different outcome.

Cashman did this before.

Our number one pick a few years back ( a pitcher ) had already stated that he was going to UCLA for his education ( and baseball ), and only then would consider signing a MLB contract.

The Yankee's GM chose to ignore this truth and selected him anyway, with the team's first pick.  Needless to say we never saw that player again.

Here we go again.  Our latest pick has already committed to UCLA.  He, perhaps, will re-consider if he gets the money he wants.  The money he wants, if provided, will deprive the Yankees of any opportunity to sign any of their other draft picks.  The funds to do so, you see, are established and limited by MLB.  You can't outspend the guidelines.  Give it all to one guy and you are dead in the water.

And this guy ( our latest Slade Heathcott, as far as potential ) wants it all.  Otherwise, he is off to Westwood  and, after a 4 career career, he will re-enter the draft and wind up at Pittsburgh.

Cashman likes to do things the way idiots do them.

This assures us of never having any talent in the farm system.

Why isn't he put on a boat and floated in the mediterranean?

  1. Brian Cashman was put on Earth in order to muck out the stalls at his Father's horse farm. That is all his brain is capable of doing correctly. He was a charity case hired by George Steinbrenner as a favor to John Cashman. ) Now we are stuck with him, as the Yankee board does not know what to do with him.
(Possibly send him to ISIS as an intern ??)

Al , did you notice that all the top drafted high school kids have scholarships to top baseball schools ? I am not trying to defend Cashman. Time will be his judge. Just keeping it balanced.

  4. One of the young pitchers is from Culver City, California. I never again thought I'd hear the word "Culver" spoken by the Yankees on draft day.

  5. I know there is a shot at this UCLA guy, whereas there was no shot at the earlier one. However, Cashman has a way of not paying attention to reality.
