We can die now

Instant analysis: (Don't hold me to this later; I'll deny it.)

We do have a stacked future outfield - (we kept Estevan Florial) - though it really sucks that Dustin Fowler will never have even gotten one at-bat as a Yankee.

We will regret trading Jorge Mateo. You can't teach speed.

Kaprielian? Damn. I had just finally learned to spell his name with two i's.

I didn't think you could trade injured players. Wasn't there a rule about that? Or at least a gentlemen's agreement?

Sonny Gray had better be good. We gave up a lot. In the long run, Oakland will be very happy with this haul.

So now what do we do with Jaime Garcia?

  1. I think this could go down as Cashbrain's biggest fuck-up yet. Time will tell.

    Depressed.

  2. According to MLB Trade rumors it's done. Kapperlian, Fowler, Mateo. That's not too bad. As I've said before Fowler was going to go. Because Judge, Frazier, Hicks, Gardner (Insert Big NAME FREE AGENT here.) Now he'll get his chance to play. Kaperlian is a TJ guy. And Mateo is blocked in the OF because of the above. And in the infield by Glybar and (thankfully he wasn't traded) Andujar. So the future is...

1B (Bird ha not but what the hey)
    2B Gleybar
    SS Didi
    3B Andujar

    Frazier
    Judge
    FREE AGENT
    Hicks
    Gardner

    Sanchez

    DH: Whomever.

    Sevi
    Gray
    Montgomery
    Adams
    Sheffield

    and till they're all ready...

    CC?
    Tanaka?

    I'll take that,

    Doug K.

  3. And don't forget maybe Cave, maybe McKinney, and maybe Florial in the OF.

Maybe Thairo "The Pharaoh" Estrada" and Tyler Wade in the INF.

Maybe Caleb Smith, Acevedes, Perez, Dillon Tate, etc., on the staff.

Still a lot of good-looking talent.

And IF this is it, then it's almost a relief, the way you feel when the doctor takes out a gigantic needle and then jabbers away while you're anticipating the pain. In the end...it's not so bad.

But why did we need the shot at all? Well, we'll put it on Cashman's plaque in the Hall: "It could have been worse."

  4. I don't mind trading Mateo, guy had stalled. I believe that Kaprelian will still be a star despite the injury. And Fowler, sentimental reasons, love that unlucky guy.

  5. It's not clear to me what Gray and Garcia will bring, esp. by the end of this year (after which Garcia is a $$$ problem if they wanna keep him).

However, to obtain A CHANCE the NYYs gave up

    an injured outfielder,

    an injured/surgery-repaired pitcher

Mateo (we may regret his going, but it's not clear where he would fit),

and Zack and Dietrich (who?) -- two guys named Moe.

AND retained Frazier, Glyber, Gallegos, German, Yefry Ramirez (!), and others of potential value -- I'm thinking Sheffield especially. I was sure one (or more) of these would be in a "package."

It feels, at this moment, like my favorite team dodged a (self-aimed) bullet.

Maybe it will look very stupid in the near future, when Mateo fulfills his potential, Kaprellian is unhittable, and Ennis Dietrich wins the Cy Young . . . while Garcia turns out to be a man who keeps company with MS-13 and Sonny is the unwanted child.

Maybe JoeyBinders will mis-use these 2 new pieces, and sit/demote the wrong guy(s) now starting. Or something. I believe he is a well-meaning guy who makes some really bad decisions, and more may be coming.

However: Maybe this is going to look good in 2 weeks, 3 months, and even into 2018.

  6. Oh, yeah -- we didn't trade this Florial guy.

  7. I like the deal Gray covers CC and pineda being gone nxt yr and hes cheap plus they got international pool money from the orioles to retool so...WIN WIN

  8. I just figured something out... The Yankees have been acquiring INTL cap money as part of this deal and the deal with the O's and I think they've done it a couple of more times. I'm thinking it's to make a bigger offer to Ottani than anyone else can make.

  9. I can't believe they just traded the next Hal Morris.

  11. I was ready to form a posse to string up Cashman, but I think this isn't so bad. I don't think Mateo is a prospect--he shows no signs of any offensive prowess. The Yankees got out of this without surrendering any blue-chip prospects. On balance, not a bad move.

  12. I think we gave up too much....It's Sonny Gray...I'm mean if you cross Sonny Fox and Jim Gray.....

  13. i thought mateo was tearing it up in trenton: a million triples and some hr and nice avg? and the magic internet tells me: "He hit .300/.381/.525 (36-for-120) in 30 games after being promoted to Trenton on June 27."

best correlation with past Yankee prospects who never played with the big club might be: Willie McGee

el duque is right that the Yankees suck at anything that resembles a long-term plan. but I guess I'll suffer the sting of another willie mcgee if this sell-off generates some October success for a year or two. I mean, what else is there to say?

  14. Mateo was a washout offensively at every level before he got to Trenton. Is this recent surge for real? It's too small a sample to take seriously. My feeling is that of the Yankees' surfeit of fine outfield prospects, this was the least risky sacrifice. But no one knows now.

  15. HOPEFULLY, WE HAVE A DECENT TO VERY GOOD STARTING PITCHER HERE FOR A FEW YEARS TO COME.

DON'T FRET GUYS, WE ARE STILL LOADED ON THE FARM.

    WE STILL HAVE,

    CLINT FRAZIER
    GLEYBER TORRES
    MIGUEL ANDUJAR
    CHANCE ADAMS
    JUSTUS SHEFFIELD
    DOMINGO ACEVEDO (100 MPH)
    YEFREY RAMINREZ (HIGH 90'S)
    DOMINGO GERMAN
    ALBERT ABREU (HIGH 90'S)
    JOSE GUZMAN (100 MPH)
    CALEB SMITH
    ESTEVAN FLORIAL
    BILLY MCKINNEY
    JAKE CAVE
    NICK SOLAK
GIOVANNY GALLEGOS (THAT ONE'S FOR EL DUQUE)
.......AND ALL THE HONORABLE MENTIONS THAT I FORGOT OR THAT MAY ARISE.

WE WOULDN'T SEE KAPRELLIAN PITCH FOR US FOR PROBABLY 2 YEARS.

WE WOULDN'T SEE FOWLER PLAY FOR US UNTIL LATE NEXT YEAR, IF HE RECOVERS FULLY.

..... AND LIKE I HAVE BEEN SAYING, MATEO CAN NOT MAKE OUR FUTURE INFIELD.

WE HAD TO GET PITCHING, AND THE ONLY WAY RIGHT NOW IS VIA TRADE.

IT'S DONE..... CASHMAN IS SCARY ON THESE DEALS, BUT HOPEFULLY,

    TODAY IS A GOOD DAY.

    GO YANKS!!!!
