Girardi is so awesome but unemployed. an excuse for all the slackers out there living in Mom's basement. "See? Girardi did everything right and he STILL got fired! Why keep harassing me, Mom? Life is not fair! Ummm... are there any hot pockets left? Make sure they're done, Ma. The last ones you brought down were cold in the middle."
The writer of this "Oh, how could they let Girardi go??" piece makes a big point that the Yankees had the third-best Pythagorean record in the majors, based largely on how well everybody hit, ran, and pitched, so how could they let him go?
This makes no sense as an argument for Joe G..
As Sassy Buck Anonymous likes to point out, the Yanks' Pythagorean record suggested that they SHOULD have won 100 games...but instead they only won 91.
Now, as with many of the modern stats—such as the ones that "prove" Jeter was the absolutely totally completely incontrovertibly worst fielder ever ever ever—I have some doubts about just how infallible this one is.
BUT...it sure as hell doesn't make the case FOR the manager.
All the writer is saying is that Girardi had a powerful mess o' talent, and managed to recognize that. Mostly.
Again, I don't think this should have made him invulnerable. And I think as much as his screw up in Cleveland, his incessant dwelling on it for the rest of the postseason shows that he is now too tightly wound for New York.

Enough Girardi. Are John and Suzyn signed up for 2018?

ReplyDeleteJoey Binders: Days without an MLB contract.
ReplyDeleteI laughed this morning when JG was quoted in the NY Post as saying "'Binder Joe' or 'Joe Binder', I think that's what they call me."
You know those guys read this blog.
I just can't wait for "Coop Cashman" to catch on...
Anonymous asking the right question.
ReplyDeleteAnyone see Ortiz shit stirring?

ReplyDeleteThanks for that, Leinstery. Seems like that guy needs to be mooned or something...
FOR THE LAST TIME....
ReplyDeleteANYONE STUPID ENOUGH NOT TO CHALLENGE THAT PLAY IN CLEVELAND, CAN'T MANAGE THIS TEAM GOING FORWARD.
That list is hysterically funny. Half of the "great" moves weren't Girardi's decisions, and some of them that were are actually kind of questionable.
ReplyDeleteBullethead Joe had to go.
