Merry Aaron Boone Day

And everywhere across the land, guided by the brightest star in the heavens... shepherds, bloggers and sons of groping Gammonites came together to celebrate the newly hired Yankee king. They bestowed upon him gifts of hopeful ink and ether, and each of them, when called upon, proudly said, "Aaron Boone is good!"

Spake wise man Ken Davidoff, prince of Westchester: He hath the knowledge to listen!

Sayeth Lupica, begotten son of Dick Young: He hath the capacity to succeed.

Spake The Comeback, a site of little fame: He hath the style of a modern king.

Sezeth Tex, son of Tino and Don: Mm-mm good,

And Cashman smiled...

  4. JUST GOT THE LATEST NEWS GUYS, AND IT ISN'T GOOD.

    OHTANI WON'T SIGN WITH US.

THE "DAREDEVIL" SAID HE WANTS TO GO TO A WEST COAST TEAM WITH A SMALLER MARKET (WHICH SOUNDS LIKE SEATTLE.

AGAIN, IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S COAL IN OUR STOCKINGS FOR CHRISTMAS.

NEED GENTLEMAN JACK NOW. (AS ASPIRIN).

  5. This is the same feeling I had in 2003 when Pettitte left. And I fear that Cashman might have another Daisuke moment where he misses out and signs Kei Igawa. What are pinapples going for on the commodities market, I'm about to buy a whole load.

And ANONY, you forgot to mention Seattle is the home of the traitorous Joggie Cano, now we have two players to hate.

  6. Great job c ASSman...another f***k up!!!!!!! No Ohtani! You and the Steinbrenners have destroyed the reputation of the Yankees as a desirable destination. So much for mediocrity!!

  7. THIS IS REALLY WHERE HAL IS LAGGING FROM HIS FATHER.

IN THE "ACQUIRING A COVETED FREE AGENT" DEPARTMENT.

GEORGE KNEW EXACTLY WHO HE WANTED.

GEORGE KNEW HOW TO WOO HIS TARGET.

GEORGE KNEW WHAT TO SAY, AND WHAT TO OFFER, AND IF IT WASN'T ENOUGH, HE WOULD SWEETEN THE POT.

    HAL?

"OH REALLY? YOU WANT TO GO TO THE WEST COAST?...O.K. THEN, GOOD LUCK."

    .....AND THAT'S IT.

    DAMMIT!

  9. Derek Jeter is laughing tonight on how he fleeced Cashman in that deal now. Jeter is now a better GM than Brian...and Jeter's not the GM.

  10. Eh...

    Yeah, it's certainly a bummer.

BUT—hard to blame Cashman if Ohtani was not even interested in talking about it.

A guy who is absolutely convinced from the start that he wants to play in a small market and not New York...this was never the guy for our particular pressure cooker. Too bad.

And again—BUT...this should give us plenty of cash to scoop up all the Atlanta free-agent prospects we want, guys we can then deal or develop as we want.

Shohei should have a good time with old Jogginson. No playoffs, no pressure, no nothing. Just fun, fun, fun!

Meanwhile, we have a dynasty to re-start.

  11. It strikes me that we may—may—have dodged a bullet.

So, basically all this big, elaborate questionnaire stuff, in Japanese and English...was nonsense.

The guy wants to play in a small market on the West Coast? And he wants to get at-bats? That essentially leaves Seattle and Oakland, and he ain't signing with Oakland.

Everybody else was played...and why would you do that? Why make every other team jump through hoops, when you're not even going to seriously consider them?

What it implies is that either Ohtani or the people around him are first-class, manipulative jerks, only interested in getting attention. We've had plenty of those on the Yankees already.

  12. Ohtani definitely ain't no Hideki Matsui, what guy in their right mind chooses to play for a small market team on the west, destined for nowhere like Oakland and Seattle,. WEAK. He just didn't want the pressure of having to perform at a high level.

  13. Better to fail in a small market. We didn't dodge a bullet, we evaded a volcano-flung boulder. Maybe the guy will pitch 33 innings in 2018.....

  14. He cannot be worse that Joe "The Binder" Girardi.
