Finally, We Learn The Real Reason.....

Gary Sanchez had the worst season of any player in history, and his job security was never threatened.

Now we know why:

He needed shoulder surgery.  Just a tweak.

A tendon here and there.

Have no fear;  the Yankees are " deep"  in guys who can't hit, throw or catch.

Look for Gary in the spring.

He'll be the guy being rooted about in that wheelbarrow.

Now we know.

  1. But this raises a really serious question. If Gary Sanchez was hurting from both a groin pull AND a shoulder injury last year, how much SHOULD we have expected from him?

Isn't this another case of the Yankees hanging a player out to dry, letting him become a scapegoat for the fans?

I know the official line will be that the Yanks didn't want to reveal a vulnerability to other teams.

But enough is enough already! They did this with Judge last year, too. The longer term concern for the Yankees SHOULD be helping along their alleged stars of the future, NOT letting them become the object of all kinds of fan ire.

This is stupid beyond words. I feel like we all owe an apology to Sanchez.

  2. When did Chris Davis play on the Yanks? He's the worse in quite some time (if not all time) and the O's really cannot do anything but to keep playing (and paying) him.

I'm holding out on an opinion on Sanchez until we see him play for a few months in 2019. It all could be that injury. But then again, we've been saying that about Bird as well for what, three years now it seems?

  3. I certainly have no idea.

And I give no one credit for keeping this injury, or the extent of it, a secret, and "pretending" it didn't exist.

Gary is as responsible as the trainer, the manager and the GM for hiding the truth.

Never does it serve anyone well (including the fans ) to lie and deceive about injuries which might be impacting play.

Only Hal gets excused from blame here, because he doesn't actually know anything.

  4. It certainly makes sense considering how he couldn't catch a baseball. Jury is still out on if his injuries would prevent Gary from catching a 97 mph ICS.

  5. As I have said, in addition to canning the GM, Manager, and coaching staff, the medical, training and fitness people must also go.

I know this will not happen, but I feel the need to bloviate tonight.

"I went down to the demonstration to get my fair share of abuse, singing 'we're going to vent our frustrations. if we don't, we're going to blow a 50 amp fuse.'"

    Fuck you, Brian.

  6. Greatest Stones song ever. Unless "Gimme Shelter" is. Or "Miss You."

    You get the idea.

  7. "I went down to the demonstration to get my fair share of abuse, singing 'we're going to vent our frustrations. if we don't, we're going to blow a 50 amp fuse.'"

I was at the opening concert of the Rolling Stones' 1989 Steel Wheels tour in Philadelphia. That was their finest tour in my opinion, at least among the ones I've been fortunate enough to see.

While they were playing Shattered, there was a power failure that affected the sound only. The lights were all still on. They stood onstage for a good 3-4 seconds vigorously playing their instruments before they noticed the complete silence. They then retreated offstage and, a good 10-15 minutes later, power was restored.

While waiting, I wondered two things:

         1) Would they replay Shattered from the beginning?

         2) Would Mick Jagger take the once-in-a-lifetime joke opportunity to say into the
microphone: "We blew a 50-amp fuse!"?

    Neither happened.
