Turns out, there is crying in baseball

It's both sad and refreshingly honest.

  1. Huh, and at first I thought that was the Mets after last night's game.

    1. If you read the story and knew what this photo pertained to, you wouldn’t be making wisecracks Horace

  2. Or, he would.

Rainy here in the city. Might get a delayed start. Hopefully not a pod.

  3. I don't recall a guy actually crying when he hit a fan, even a kid. But it's worth crying about. Why don't they have the extended netting, already? Somebody have to die first? Jesus.

  4. They have extended netting. The kid was in the seats just past the netting.

  5. Game postponed.

Not enough starters. Bullpen game was scheduled. Now the makeup is in August.

    I smell Russian collusion.

  6. Well, they should have more netting, damn it.

Yeah, gonna rain all evening. Double header this weekend?

  7. I read August 3rd.

    You know, the collusion part.

Severino should be back by then.

  8. I don't understand why they didn't make the fans sit in the stands for the next three hours.

How is Hal supposed to make any money?

  9. 4 hours. Hal was expecting extra innings.

  13. According to the official NYY website, they are playing a day-night double-header on Aug. 3rd. They moved the start-time of the original game for that day from 4:05 to 1:05, second game at 7:05 - - so that they can charge two separate admissions - - so Hal will get his bitcoin, after all...he just has to wait a bit (no pun intended) longer for it. 14. My view is that the parents were irresponsible here. I hate to say that. And we can only hope that the outcome will be good and the injured child will fully recover. By the way, I did not see the event and can't watch it. So i assume the child is still living and in hospital care.

But when you bring a young child to a baseball game, you must always be attentive to where you are sitting and what is unfolding. I always, for example, would sit between the batter and my child if I was anywhere in the stadium where a line-drive could be delivered. I would always be alert at every pitch and swing ( pretty much assuming it was possible at any time for a screaming line-drive to find us ) and only look away, or get distracted when nothing was happening ( which is most of the time at a game ).

It is a parent's duty to take any ball hit into the vicinity of where they are sitting. Even if they get hit. The absolute priority is to make certain that a ball cannot hit the child. Sorry for whomever was attending the child. But that is fact.

I can only assume that the responsible adult was not really a baseball person, and did not understand how quickly that ball can find you.

    What a horror.

  15. I agree, Alphonso. And I often wonder about the ages of kids who parents bring to the game.

I realize there are all kinds of factors playing into this—people can't get babysitting, they want the whole family together, etc.

But before a certain age, the average kid will just be bored as hell at a game, and there are only about five million troubles for them to run smack into: metal railings, concrete steps, hot food stands, low ledges to topple over, and the aforementioned batted balls. People are better off just waiting.
