Tribute to The Great One

Sure, there's a lot of trivial stuff being commemorated this year, and even this weekend.  Moon landing, yadayadayada.

But most of all, Mariano Rivera enters the pantheon of heroes.

"Magnificence lies in daily effort.

The unstinting heart, the level gaze,

Looks to the end and not beyond—

That rests in even surer hands than thine."

We love you, Mo!

  1. "Mariano Rivera takes his place at the top of the pantheon of heroes."

Sorry Hoss, but I felt obligated to correct that for you.

    mea maxima culpa.

  2. Judge will make the HOF if he stays healthy and plays long enough. Who else among the new blood, do you think?

  3. New blood on the Yankees only, Winnie?

*If Stanton stays healthy enough to hit 500 HR, he's in.
    *CC most likely.
*Gleyber if he continues to hit for average and power and tightens up his defense at SS or plays primarily at 2B
    * Judge if he stays healthy.
*LeMahieu IF he wins the batting title and has a few more good offensive numbers. His defense speaks for itself.
    * Chapman and Britton if they have 3 more very good years.

  4. OOOps...I forgot to mention "Cooperstown" Cashman as GM!

If he does get in I'm going to buy you a front row seat and a headband made of lightweight plastic you can pop on that has lights that circle the band much like you see on Times Square with the words "Fuck You Hal" in bright red digital letters. Also a small dart gun to take out Cashman without any conspicuity.

  6. Sterling is already in the radio HOF. Suzyn is nominated this year.

CC and Edwin (I think he'll make it), but they're not young

    If they stay healthy:
    Judge
    Stanton (healthy from now on)
    Gleyber

If they stay healthy and keep their heads screwed on (a long shot):
    Chapo
    Sanchez

    I hope but doubt it:
    Sir Didi
    The General
    Britton

  7. I agree about The Judge, Warbler, but that's a big if. Does anybody know why he left the game early today? If it was just for a rest, I say great. But I wonder...

Stanton? Who is Stanton? Oh, right! I dunno. Even if he stays healthy, there will be PED questions. MLB is going to have to resolve all that one way or another, but who knows when?

CC? Most likely, considering the landmarks he hit this year.

The Gleyber? A big contender. Sancho could be, too—again, if he stays healthy, and doesn't have another meltdown as he did in 2018. I doubt if The General, or Sir Didi, or Britton will quite have the stats. And Chapo's—shall we say, domestic quirks—may well hold him back.

And...let's not forget El Matador. If Andujar is able to bounce back as the hitter he was, and put in the years, he will definitely make it, never mind his fielding. A big if, I know, but...
