Dellin done

Let's face it: The gods hate us.

  1. From the Daily News:

"Aaron Boone said the reliever suffered the injury Sunday, landing awkwardly after jumping on the mound to celebrate his comeback."

Who was the kicker that hurt himself celebrating a made field goal?

I hope Toonces signs with the muts.

  2. Unbelievable!

    It's like a Mad Lib.

  3. UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE.

    SEVY LOOKED GOOD THOUGH.

    HOUSTON WON TONIGHT.

    WE CAN'T LET UP.

    NOT EVEN 1 DAY.

  4. The Dellin injury is very sad. But really: have we trusted this guy for two years?

I think we have to measure this: Betances' injury vs. the 10 heart attacks his absence will spare us.

Did you see the jump, too? It came—of course—when Dellin skipped off the mound, mistakenly thinking there were three outs. Oh, Toonces!

But beyond that, it wasn't like he jumped high and came stomping down hard. It was barely a "jump" at all, more of a half-skip, of the sort you might take going out of an elevator or getting up out of the dugout.

In other words, his Achilles tendon was hanging by a thread, and if it didn't happen then it was bound to happen soon, maybe when he was putting on his shower sandals 10 minutes later.

The more relevant question is WHY? Why is this big, young, healthy athlete is so delicate? Not only with his shoulder, but right on down to his Achilles tendon? What is that?

I'll tell you what it is. It is a ballplayer whose body has been tuned to a ridiculous, inappropriate tautness, by fair means or foul. Either he—and a lot of other Yankees—are still juicing, or they are pending ridiculous amounts of time in the weight room, or both.

Can't wait to see how that promised Coops investigation of the Yanks' training methods goes.

  5. 13bit, as to Stanton...isn't this at least the third week in a row that we've been told he should be back this week? And it's already Wednesday?

    Well, where is he?

If I were a betting man, I would bet that we will be told tomorrow or the next day that The Flailer has some other tweak, gonad or whatever.

Me, I predict an oblique problem. But whatever it is, we'll be told that it's time to shut him down until next year. And then, maybe, it becomes Ellsbury time...

Truly. I don't think we'll ever see him as a Yankee again.

  6. Oh, and here it is: there is "a chance" Stanton could be activated on Wednesday, according to Ma Boone.

Wait, what? There's "a chance" he'll be activated? Is he able to play or not?

Boone also said that Stanton "may not play right away." But he will be the starting left fielder in the playoffs.

Uh-huh. There are 10 games left in the Yankees' season. So...his warm up will be, what 6 games? Five?

    Oh, this should be great.

  7. Finally, talking about injuries:

—Maybin was out there visibly rubbing his wrist tonight. WTF??? Where is the Red Menace? Why don't we bring up Florial, at least for defensive purposes? Nope, let's just wait for more injuries to happen.

—Where is Deivi? I guess that plan was discarded? Would've been nice to see what he had, anyway...

  8. Longer it takes for Stanton to come back the less likely we see him play. And we all know he's running out of time.

Good to see Sevi pitch so well. We are going to need him. Really bad break for Dellin...hope he comes back fully.

  9. Stanton coming back is like the China trade deal. Lots of talk about how well it's going. But nothing happens.
