Impractical Jokers

TBS, that fine creation of Mr. Ted Turner, has been advertising the Shea Stadium version of a show it apparently runs, called, Impractical Jokers.  In it, the jokers in question go to the Mets' playing field, prank various Mets fans, and hilarity ensues.

This should, in fact be the name for the Mets' ongoing reality show this season.

The Flushing Baymen are now:

—10-10, after barely holding on tonight with a wild (and lucky) finish, in their epic, 25-game string against first-place teams and fellow wild-card contenders.

—Still all of 4 games over .500.

—Still in 9th place in the Senior Circuit.

—STILL in contention for the postseason with as 18 games left, perhaps only 3 games out of the second, Bud Selig Memorial Wild-Card Game road playoff spot, if the Cubbies lose tonight.

Ah, the battle of mediocrity continues!  No doubt, just what the Lords of MLB always wanted.  Absolute parody parity, nobody all that good or that bad.

The Mets' second-best starter, Schnor, whines and frets about having to pitch to the best-hitting catcher in the league.  The team's goofball manager forgets that Bryce Harper is still on the other team's bench to pinch-hit.  The bullpen has already blown 26 saves on the season.

Still, the Mets' jalopy wheezes on, racing the other Joad Families of the NL's middle rank for the promised land.

Oh, and the biggest joke?  Somehow, discerning New York fans aren't falling for what MLB has reconfigured as a pennant race.

Fewer than 21,000 fans tonight were rattling around the Ballpark Named for One of Our Greatest Financial Predators, making it 14 straight dates since the Metsies have been able to bring out 40,000 of the "faithful."

Attendance seems to be rapidly slipping backwards, even as the Mets hang tough meh.

If you clinch a Wild Card Road Play-In spot and there's nobody there to see it, did it really happen?
