Brian Cashman Is a Corporate Tool.

Well, that didn't take long.  Just two days to get us back to everything that I hate about—

—The current Yankees organization.

—Baseball today.

Yep, Red Thunder has been optioned off—even when there is no place to option him.

Is there any better illustration of how deeply useless Brian Cashman, the Office Boy, is at anything besides corporate gamesmanship?

There is not even a semblance of another place to play, but...off Clint Frazier goes!  To...THE ALTERNATE SITE.

Look, there are plenty of reasons NOT to give Frazier the one more chance that may be all he needs to finally break through.  He certainly has been a frustrating character in the past, with his various moods and torments, and he was not exactly the winner of the Lou Gehrig Iron Horse Award in this year's abbreviated spring training, being laid up with plantar fasciitis.

But this is just another way for Cashman to slowly destroy Clint as a player.

One might think that this is because Frazier seems to have personally offended Cashman by objecting to being sent down in the past—the very first time that ever happened in the history of major-league baseball.  But I refuse to believe that ol' Coops could ever be so petty.

No, Sonny, it's not personal.  This is how Cash does it.  What is needed—what was needed about two years ago—was to make a decision, one way or the other:  give Clint a shot, or trade him while he still has value.

But in the boardroom twilight of Brian Cashman, either route has unacceptable corporate risks.  Clint might fail if they give him a chance, and he might break out with another team.  Hence, the decision must be:  keep him around but don't play him, while his skills and value slowly deteriorate.

What a stupid waste.  But it's why Brian Cashman has had his job for 22 years and counting.

And what do we get instead of Clint?  Why, two more middle relievers, of course!

Plus, we just signed Fernando Abad, which sounds like the name of the genie who appears when you rub that magic lamp you find on a beach.

But yes, of course:  because in our wonderful, modern game, most of the roster must consist of  pitchers who can throw 1-5 innings.  You can see what this is doing to the sport.  It's as if a majority of basketball rosters were devoted to shot-blocking specialists who could do anything else.

No room to see if an exciting young outfielder can break through.

  1. Amen, I say. I have no idea how he's managed to save his ass from getting tanked for this long. He may be the ultimate survivor. Tons of mistakes, tons of stupidity, but never any accountability. And when certain moves should have been made ... just nothing doing. Which resulted in a virtually all right hand hitting lineup.

Frazier certainly is getting shafted again, but he might be back before you know, what with the injury history of this team and the corona virus.

  2. We wouldn't need so many pitchers if more of them were any good. Look at the list. Lots of Count Suckula in there.

Frazier is being destroyed, there's no two ways about it. It's one thing to have a wild hair up your butt about somebody, it's another to systematically kill their career. Especially when there's so much ability on display.

I hope the sunken-eyed butterball rots in Hell.

  3. UNBELIEVABLE.

BEN HELLER MUST BE ON THE ROSTER.

JONATHAN HOLDER MUST BE ON THIS ROSTER.

DAVID HALE MUST BE ON THIS ROSTER.

IT TOOK ALL 3 OF THEM TO BLAST LAST NIGHT'S GAME OUT OF THE WATER. (I'M POSITIVE JUST 2 OF THEM COULD HAVE DONE THE SAME JOB).

YOU MEAN TO TELL ME, EACH ONE OF THEM IS MORE VALUABLE THAN CLINT'S BAT?

    INSANITY.

  4. Great article! Cashman has brilliantly manipulated the media and his masters. He's probably the principal architect of the perverted Yankee groupthink at the root of the teams profit-driven mediocrity. Pretty sure, though, that Fernanado Abad sailed on the Pequod with Ishmael.

  5. Amazing. Gardner starts the season 0-6 and is still suiting up while Clint goes...

Getting sentenced to SWB is bad enough, but this is a Hades with no playing time. Just let the beast rot.

    Unbelievable.

PS: my bad - Gardy did walk once. I’m not bashing Gardner (oh, wait. Yes I am), but it’s time to turn it over.

  6. @RichieAllen Yeah, even if it means one less lefty hitter and an even more right handed lineup, both Andujar and Frazier are much better hitters and they should be getting Gardner's playing time. Gardner should be the back up outfielder, not the other way around.

  7. Thanks, guys.

Hammer, this is exactly how he's stuck around for 22 years. He's a boardroom, ninja master. Frazier will never be allowed out due to the possibility that he could show Cashman up.

And yes, I like Gardy, too, but it's way past time for him to go. In fact, he really never should've been a regular to start with. He makes the very most out of his mediocre skills—but they're still mediocre skills. He would've been ideal as a No. 4 outfielder type, a frequent defensive sub, somebody giving everyone regular days off.

Played regularly, he always wears down. And as he's aged, a good part of his game has vanished, as it always does for "legs" players. I don't like to think about where his newfound power has come from in recent years, but power is not exactly in short supply on this team.
