Who's coming off the books this year? Tanaka, Happ(?), can they cut Hicks? Can they just be shameless and replace Boone with Hinch, add Bauer and Realmuto?
This was a well-earned loss. In the most important game of the year, they benched one of their best all-around players--and their third or fourth best hitter (Frazier)--in favor of one of their worst all-around players, and one of their worst hitters (Gardner, you could look it up), based on the tiny sample of what each of them did in the last week of the season rather what they did in the giant sample of what they did all year. Then, in a critical spot in the eighth inning, they pinch-hit the execrable washout Mike Ford instead of Frazier, and guess what happens? Called strike three. This is staggering, inexcusable stupidity and incompetence. The better team--the far-better-run and smarter organization--won this series. To echo the oft-repeated sentiment, Fuck Hal, fuck Cashman, fuck Boone--and, sad to say, fuck the Yankees. They're not worth the time or loyalty of anyone but terminal masochists.
And why was Ford even on the roster ahead of Andujar? Andujar can hit righties better than Ford, who can't hit anybody. Again--staggering stupidity and incompetence.
And, in the end, that legendary, awesome, unbelievable offense of the New York Yankees, back with their lineup injury free, scores ONE run. The most important game of the year they showed true grit. Or something that rhymes with grit. Starts with an s. Too upset to think of it right now.
Non-availability of Sevy, Paxton, German and Kanhle is probably the real story of 2020. But anon's points above are well taken. This organization is resource rich, and mismanages those resources every year. The New York Yankees are an underachieving organization, at least on the baseball field. Executive leadership is the reason.
Yeah, this is pretty awful. I don't have anything to add. I am too old to care very much about this anymore. I think i'm pretty much done with the Yankees.
I won't be getting the MLB package next year, I can pretty much promise you that.
And let's not soon forget Stanton, who for all his production, looked in the ninth like he'd never seen a breaking ball in his life for two straight pitches. "Whoa, what was that? Oh shit, another one!"
BBB, Not only was sending in a guy who hadn’t had a hit in 2 months crazy, how about the flip side after affects.....having Sanchez as a defensive replacement with the season on the line. The worst “Booneheaded” move I can remember.

ReplyDeleteAt least we we spared the agony of seeing the winning run scored on another Sanchez pass ball....WTF was he doing in there ?
ReplyDeleteI lost hope when they pinch-hit Ford. Whether he would be directly responsible or not, they were losing once Sanchez got into the game.
ReplyDeleteChapman's the goat second year in a row.

A reminder that Mike Ford, whom Boone sought fit to send in as a pinch-hitter in a key situation in an elimination game, last got a hit in August.
ReplyDelete0-for September. 0-for-October.
That is fucking mind-boggling.

ReplyDeletePublius-- LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat was like watching a toddler fall down a flight of stairs when you are twenty feet away.
