Who and when

Kluber, "they" say, September 1st. Everyone but Sanchez will be awhile.

And t-shirt of the day...

  1. Something I noticed today: Kyle Higashioka has been in the organization since 2008 and hasn't hit arbitration yet. He won't be a free agent until the 2024-2025 offseason when he'll be 34 years old.

By my count if the Yankees keep him through his arb years, he'll have spent 16 years in the organization before reaching free agency. I know he's just a backup catcher, but the system really screwed him over. It's not like he was a bad minor-league player; quite the opposite, he had strong numbers on both sides of the ball in AA and AAA. The Yankees simply didn't need him and could stash him away for years and years.

I hope the next CBA links free agency to age in some way. Let's say, a team holds a player's contract from age 18-25 and then the player automatically becomes a free agent at age 26 (unless he's signed an extension). Something like that.

I'm not saying Higashioka would've made a fortune, but I think he could've latched on to a bad team somewhere and gotten more playing time in his late-20s.

  2. As for today's roster move...

New York Yankees recalled CF Estevan Florial from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
