Great ex-Yankee to Manage White Sox in Odious "Field of Dreams" Game
Confessed turkey lover and former utility infielder Miguel Cairo (2004, 2006-07), who led the Yankees to a .615 win percentage in games he appeared in (scroll down), will manage the White Sox in tonight's odious "Field of Dreams" game. The gobbler-gobbling Sox bench coach will fill in for skipper Tony LaRussa, who will be in Florida for a family funeral. Condolences to Tony, cheers to El Pavo!
I'm ashamed to admit that I'd forgotten just how good Bubba Crosby was. No one personified that era of Yankee baseball quite like he did.
ReplyDeleteWe love turkey (the bird, not the country)!
ReplyDeleteBubba Ho Tep had some ears, I'll say that.
ReplyDeleteWe always wondered which of Manfred’s dreams would come true on this field. He finally told us “I dream of Heaney” and now the whole nation gets to watch the Yankees lose.
ReplyDeleteJack Curry and that other yutz on the pre-game show are talking about best and favorite baseball movies.
ReplyDeleteNeither of them mentioned "The Pride of the Yankees"—at least not in the segment I saw.
Are you fucking kidding me?
I wouldn't call "Pride" a great movie, but it has one of the greatest movie endings, ever. Gary Cooper—playing Gehrig splendidly—gives the big speech and then ducks down into the dugout. The camera stays on the last step, and the darkness into which Gehrig has departed.
About as perfect (and harrowing) a depiction of death on film as you will ever see. He's just gone, into the darkness.
Costner says the field used to be corn. There's sure a lot of it in the opening.
ReplyDeleteHoss, you are 100% correct.
ReplyDeleteIs there a game tonight or just hours of this bullshit?
ReplyDeleteBuck rhapsodic about the White Sox. I'm waiting for the critical commentary about the Yankees.
When did Lynn become a fat load?
ReplyDeleteLynn has always been a fat load.
