There is a recent update on the Yankee's top prospect. The Dominguez boy.
Although he has dropped out of the rating services' "top 100" prospects, that doesn't mean he is, well, a turkey.
Sure, he put on "what looks to be 30 pounds" of (largely) not muscle. But we have all been at home eating candy to deal with the pandemic.
He proved last year he could not hit lefties ( .167 avg) and he struck out 39% of the time. So we can forget two things at least:
1. He can give up the switch hitting idea ( we have Aaron Hicks ), and
2. He can't run well enough to play center if he is dragging 30 extra "big ones."
The analysts don't want to "write off" an 18 year old (or whatever he is). So they maintain he still has a canon arm. And, hopefully, most of Hal's $5million.
So maybe they can try him on the mound. He never played the game before so he never pitched before either.
But it makes one wonder; who signed this 16 year old and gave him $5 big ones? Is there no limit to stupidity? No consequences?
The best thing we can do is forget about him.
I said (from the day of signing) that he would never be anything close to what the Yankees were pretending. That's when I began calling him "Jessica" ( no disrespect intended to women ). It was just my way of saying he is not going to be a ballplayer.
Every report you hear this season will be dismaying.
Unless there is an ice cream sandwich incident in Sayreville.
In response to your two questions, I can tell you from personal experience and from observation that:
ReplyDelete1. There is no limit to stupidity. This is as true on the Yankees as it is elsewhere in life. History gives us countless examples of this simple axiom.
2. And, as for "consequences," it has become clear - like the slow realization that you are waking up in a trough of pig shit after a days-long tequila bender, that THERE ARE NO CONSEQUENCES. There should have been consequences YEARS AGO for Cashman's bad moves, non-moves and bowel movement moves. There have been no consequences. It must be AMAZING to have a job where you can fail so consistently and blatantly as Brian C. and not have to worry about getting canned.
All of which begs the questions:
1. Is Hal just a loyal boss?
2. Does Hal know something we don't know?
3. Does Brian have kompromat - pee tapes, maybe - on Hal?
4. Are WE just not familiar with the nuances of 4-dimensional chess?
5. Does Hal not care about winning?
I'll let you all decide.
Please tell me that it's not true. Has our boy Jessica really turned into a balloon?
ReplyDeleteIf so, I'm not that surprised. But I thought it'd take a bit longer than this.
13bit, I don't think Hal wants to win. (And if winning is number 95 on his priority list, that doesn't even count.) If he really wanted to win, Cashman would have been canned a long time ago. Every so often, Hal allows Cashman to spend a bunch of money, just to convince gullible members of the fanbase that Hal wants to win.
Hal Steinbummer absolutely does NOT care about winning. Prove me wrong.
ReplyDeleteAlphonso, to ask the Yankees Passover question:
ReplyDelete"Why should this signing be different from all other signings?"
And yes, we definitely should have "passed over" Jasson the Martian.
Thank you, thank you, I'll be appearing here for another week! Don't forget your waitresses—and just hope they forget you!
Yeah, bitty, my operating maxim in life is:
ReplyDelete"Never underestimate the role of stupidity in human affairs."
I apply this to myself, when answering my wife's questions about why I did this or that. Also, refusal to acknowledge this accounts for most of the conspiracy theories in the world today.
"They couldn't have been THAT stupid!" Yes, sadly, they could.
Horace will be presiding over the first 2 Passover Seders at Kutchers in the Catskills Borscht Belt. April 15 and 16. Get your tickets early.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Passover, Allah passed over Cashman when intelligence was being doled that day.
