There's something so Apple about these goofball announcers. They don't even acknowledge that Manny started with the Yankees. And the woman can't pronounce Andujar and Taillon.
I don’t love the amateurish Apple TV broadcast. The production values are crap, the announcers sound like Connecticut School of Broadcasting dropouts, even the picture seemed dark and grainy.
In fact, the Apple announcing team tonight was so far superior to the Kaye-led crew that I thought that I would be much more inclined not to turn down the volume on Yankee games if only this trio were at the mike.
Kaye is a self-promoting dunderhead, doing essentially a radiocast on TV because he loves the sound of his own greasy, adenoidal voice--"SWING and a miss!" twenty times a game, "here's the one-one pitch," "Banuelos deals," etc., as though we can't SEE these details on the screen, abetted by Paul O'Neil's high-school-jock platitudes (he once actually asked Kaye on the air who Bill James is). David Cone is the only competent presence on the Yankee broadcast team. The irony is that while Kaye is doing radio on television, Sterling is doing television on radio--seldom reporting the score, often failing to distinguish between a swinging and called strike, omitting essential details ("two on, two out"--as in first and third? Second and third? First and second?)--another self-promoting dud. He and Kaye and Waldman, like Cashman, enjoy their tenured-forever sinecures of incompetence because George considered them family, not because any of them ever surmounted a hurdle of basic competence at their jobs.
And just for the record: the superlative team on last night's Apple TV broadcast was Melanie Newman (play-by-play, who is a regular on the Orioles' telecasts), Chris Young (analyst), Hannah Keyser (analyst), and Brooke Fletcher (reporter). The Yankees should be so lucky as to have them every night--if Hal miraculously began to value competence over who kissed Big Daddy's fat ass thirty years ago.
IMHO, two voices in the booth is ideal, especially if they understand the idea of "less is more". I live in the Tampa broadcast area, last week I thought I was going to go mad with the incessant talking. I'd rather listen to any combination of Yankee broadcasters than Tampa's. Over the decades networks in all sports keep adding more and more voices in the booth. Is this the result of some kind of demographic quota? The mute button is increasingly become my friend. Maybe it's a symptom of early cranky old fart disease, although I do enjoy three knowledgeable voices who are able to suppress their egos. Dunno.
First give a humble, shy bow to the juju gods in thanks. But as a 45+ year avid, and rabid Yankee fan, this pitching staff is currently performing like they traversed a worm hole back to 1998, and our tellies have been transformed into Way back machines (please, more offerings to the juju gods for health and performance). This level of performance has been totally unexpected. We are currently in need of two, maybe three bullpen arms, trade Gallo barring a miraculous turnaround, plus another corner outfield bat, and Wilson Contreras. These improvements are definitely realistic, and we'd have a team which would wipe that perpetual smugness off of the FUCKING Dodgers. Pretty obvious, and doable moves, but will. Hal allow The Brain to pull it off? I totally agree with Duque, The Brain has made a series of subtle moves, and finally seems to have have assembled a training staff, coaching-analytics staffs, scouting, and not to be overlooked coordinators who all seem to have jelled. Please🙏, we all deserve another Dynasty to start this year, no? It is our Manifest Destiny! 🙄
borntorun999: Perhaps we should consider the entire Yankee broadcast team to be an atrocity, by any reasonable metric? Kaye and Sterling are the most reviled baseball broadcasters among nonpartisan professional critics, and you are no doubt a fat incel sloth of sexist pig dribbling cheap bear down your double chin.
Man do I miss Bill White and Kenny Singleton. They would have made a great pairing. The mindless banter and innumerable K's make this game almost unwatchable. All I need is a Yankee 12 step group and I'll be a free man again.

ReplyDeleteGood Luck to him!
BTR -
ReplyDeleteYes. He will find another job soon.
What do you think his next job will be?
ReplyDeleteAAA, AA.
ReplyDeleteOur old pal J.A. Happ has retired after 15 seasons. See ya.
20. 40.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that will be the amount of his contract>
ReplyDeleteA TREVINO GROWS EVERYWHERE!
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to notify the Yankee brass that two out rallies are not allowed. This is where they really miss ICS grounding out to first.
ReplyDeleteAnd when does Hicks get his next injury? He's due, if you catch my drift.
Carp!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI fucking hate Apple. Had to jump through hoops trying to get on Apple+ and got nowhere. Switched to IPTV and bingo. No muss, no fuss.
ReplyDeleteJust got home from drinks with a friend and missed the first eight runs. Jesus.
Bruh this game is kinda exciting....I say "kinda"...my offering of humility to the Juju Gods so they don't fuck with us
ReplyDeleteHit Hicks. Afraid to pitch to him I guess.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Cole and the bullpen can hold them. We're only up 12-0.
ReplyDeleteCole with a no hitter through 6.
ReplyDeletePerfect, isn't he? Sorry, don't mean to jinx.
ReplyDeleteheh heh
ReplyDeleteFuck
ReplyDeleteoooops but you know what it's better this way because he's thrown 93 pitches in the 7th so he can come out after 100.
ReplyDeleteJust checked the game. Up 12-zip? I'm heading for the Bridge in honor of Scooter!
ReplyDeleteMANNY FUCKING BANUELOS !!!!!
ReplyDeleteDON'T SUCK YOU HEARTBREAKING FUCKER!!!

Anyway, Let’s get ‘em again tomorrow-
Connecticut School of Broadcasting . . . . BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
ReplyDeleteThis is becoming surreal. The Juju gods are setting us up, the little bastards.

Did anyone else catch John calling the opposing team the Detroit Lions? He corrected himself but it was funny.
ReplyDeletePerhaps we should consider Barney’s comments about the quality of the Apple broadcast to be satirical?
ReplyDeleteGood Jomboy video explaining how the Yanks figured out Tigers pitching last night:
