Drunk Blog continued: Where would we be without tomato cans?

 Not here.

So we lost on Luis Castillo.

What about Gallo?

Why wasn't Cashman so protective of his prospects last year, when he sought to revive a wild card contender?

What does it say about Gleyber, that they were reportedly offering him in a package for Soto?

Who shores up the fourth and fifth spots in the rotation?

What about Sevy?

They say there is no clock in baseball. But it is ticking.

  1. I admit it. I went to bed once we were ahead 7-5 and I missed the Grand Salami. But I caught the highlights today.

So we didn't get Castillo. I haven't done an autopsy on the trade, but we were beat by Seattle? Seattle? Really? And where's David Robertson already?

My guess: here comes Noah Syndegaard, to firmly shore up the middle of the rotation. In other words, not what we need.

We are not lights-out enough to win in the playoffs, much less the World Series. Or as my dad used to call it, the World Serious.

As an aside, it was good to see Chapman throw a 9-pitch, clean inning. If he can get out of his head, he would be a great weapon for the 7th or 8th. But it was the Royals, so probably too early to think any thoughts like that.

  2. Because Cashman is a Genius. I hear in Cash we trust." I do not. No World Championships with The Genius at the helm.

  3. Relief pitchers. That's what the Yankees need. RED HOT relief pitchers who mow hitters down without wasting so much as a drop of sweat -- that excludes Chappy. You win the tournament with your relief pitchers -- or you lose.

el duque is correct about tomato cans. The Yankees have the second best record because they've crushed the tomato cans. But the good teams? Not so much. The cheatin Stros made them look bad, and they will be waiting for us at the ALCS. The freakin' Mets handled them just fine.

Ask the Giants and Dodgers how it worked out for them last year having the two best regular season records.

  5. Oh, Good Lord, not Goldilocks! Frankie Montas would be insufficient enough.

I will cut The Brain some slack on Castillo if, as it seems, Seattle just overwhelmed the Reds with a crazy giveaway of prospects. But what Cooperstown never seems to get is that the next best thing is not necessarily a solution.

He can bring in Syndergaard, or Montas, or any other marginal, 3-5 starter, and that may help in nailing down the division, but it still won't give us the big arm we need for the postseason.

  6. That, and...

WHY IS JOEY GALLO STILL ON MY TEAM???

  7. Much rather have Castillo than Benintendi. I’m disappointed because I really thought that would be the BIG trade this week. Now we’ll overpay for mediocre pitching. Maybe say good-bye to Andujar, who we might not be able to keep next year. Even worse, Seattle is coming in here next week and Castillo is pitching against us, and every man-jack here knows he will absolutely dominate us while the Seattle dugout sneers at us.

Turns out, sometimes you CAN predict baseball, Suzyn.

  8. We lose a lot of one run games to Houston. So I still want another bat. Someone like, I don't know... Soto!

    Watch...

    1. DJ LeMahieu (R) 1B
    2. Aaron Judge (R) DH
    3. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF
    4. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
    5. Josh Donaldson (R) 3B
    6. Matt Carpenter (L) RF
    7. Aaron Hicks (S) CF
    8. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) SS
    9. Jose Trevino (R) C

    Meh.

    Becomes

    1. DJ LeMahieu (R) 3B
    2. Aaron Judge (R) CF
    3. Soto! LF
    4. Rizzo 1B
    5. Andrew Benintendi (L) RF
    6. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
    7. Matt Carpenter (L) DH
    8. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) SS
    9. Jose Trevino (R) C

    Not totally scary but scarier.

  10. Love the exclamation mark, Doug!

But...Benintendi MUST hit second. This is not hard! He has one of the best OBPs on the team. Put him AHEAD of our big boppers, NOT behind them.

    I have spoken!

  11. I agree Hoss. I was being lazy and just inserted Soto and Rizzo. And losing Donaldson.
